ACCEPTANCE INTO THE CAMPBELL UNIVERSITY TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM As an undergraduate candidate seeing a North Carolina “Initial” Teaching Licensure, you must be accepted into the Teacher Education Program prior to student teaching. It is important that you recognize admittance requirements early in your program of study so that you work to maintain the level of performance required to gain acceptance into the Teacher Education Program. FOLLOW THESE STEPS FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM STEP 1: You will complete the Teacher Education Application through the TK20 Online System (https://tk20.campbell.edu/campustoolshighered/start.do) NOTE: Students will be issued passwords for this system. Faculty will train and assist students in the use of the TK20 system. STEP 2: Your GPA must be 2.5 and you must have earned a “C” or better in each content area course and each education course. STEP 3: You must pass PRAXIS I if your ACT/SAT scores are not high enough to waive this requirement. If you take the PRAXIS make sure to send Campbell and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction score reports. The passing scores for PRAXIS I are listed below plus ACT/SAT scores which will waive all or parts of the PRAXIS: PRAXIS Assessment Reading Writing Mathematics Score Required for Acceptance 176 173 173 Combined 522 ACT Score waiver SAT Score waiver 24 (Reading/ Writing Waived) 24 (Reading/ Writing Waived) 24 (Math Waived) Combined English/Math 24 (PRAXIS I waived) 550 (Reading/Writing Waived) 550 (Reading/Writing Waived) 550 (Math Waived) Combined Verbal/Math 1100 (PRAXIS I waived) STEP 4: Upload into TK20 “Document Room a content area paper or project which earned a grade of “A” or “B” from the course instructor. Include a scanned copy with the instructor’s comments. Your electronic copy of the paper should include the corrections suggested by the instructor. NOTE: The purpose of the content paper/product is to demonstrate to faculty and external reviewers that you understand content in a deep and broad manner. It should NOT discuss or be an “education” topic. You will upload 1) the “graded” content paper/product; and, 2) the “corrected” content paper/product. STEP 5: Upload a reflective essay in which you explain how the chosen content paper/product demonstrates your ability to think critically in the field of study. The essay should be at least one page in length. NOTE: This reflective essay should NOT discuss the “how”, “why’s” or “what’s” of teaching, but should reflect how this product/project demonstrates your content knowledge within the field of study. Remember, you must demonstrate to us that you have a deep understanding of content!
