Brief Description of Post: This post involves mainly
working on the 10 bed organic ward (Hayworth House)
and the 20 bed functional ward (Spenser) and some
outpatient clinic work for the Woking Community Mental
Health Team for Older Adults covering the Borough of
Woking which has a total population of approximately
15,500 over-65s.
General Psychiatry
The Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust was
created on April l, 2005, to provide Psychiatric and
Learning Disability services for the whole county of
Surrey as well as part of North East Hampshire and
Croydon, and achieved Foundation status on May 1,
2008. The Abraham Cowley Unit covers a population of
circa 845,00 in the North West of the Trust.
Community Experience will be under the supervision of
Dr. Parsons who has consultant responsibility for 7,500
of the Woking CMHT’s over-65s and will include two
outpatient clinics a week on Monday morning and
Thursday morning with additional community experience
as needed. The postholder can also join members of
the Multi-Disciplinary Team for community assessments

not very high and the opportunity for multi-agency
working is excellent. The working environment in the
wards is friendly and most junior doctors find that they
settle in very quickly.
Ward work includes assessing inpatient admissions,
regular communication meetings with the inpatient team
and intensive experience of managing older psychiatric
patients with a wide variety of illnesses.
Research and Audit: Trainees are encouraged to
undertake an Audit Project during their four months.
Opportunities for research may be available and will be
tailored to individual trainees needs.
Emergencies: The junior doctor accepts that he/she will
also perform duties in occasional emergencies and
unforeseen circumstances at the request of the
appropriate consultant in consultation, where
practicable, with his colleagues, both senior and junior.
It has been agreed between professions and the
Department, that while juniors accept that they will
perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that
additional commitments arising under the sub-section
are exceptions and, in particular, that juniors should not
be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged
periods on a regular basis. The job description includes
cover of normal annual and study leave of colleagues for
whom the practitioner is expected to deputise during the
normal run of his/her duties.
Where the placement The community base with the Woking Community
is based
