The SACRED
SACREDWORKS
Pyramid and Philosophy
The SACREDWORKS philosophy is illustrated
visually using the shape of a pyramid. The
pyramid is divided into seven levels of support
beginning with basic life needs (like fair and
competitive pay) at the lowest level of the
pyramid. It evolves to higher level wants and
desires (such as leisure, fitness, spiritual
enrichment, and career advancement) at the
peak of the pyramid.
The Foundation: Our Mission
& Core Values
The foundation of the pyramid is our Mission
and Core Values which have guided our

organization for over 90 years. They are
integrated into the Sacred Heart culture and
define not only where we have been, but also
where we are going and how we will get there.
The Mission and Core Values are critical in the
delivery of Christ-centered patient care.
Likewise, they serve as the cornerstone in every
decision made regarding your pay, benefit and
support programs. An excerpt from our
Mission states that we are “dedicated to
spiritually centered, holistic care which sustains
and improves the health of individuals and
communities.” SACREDWORKS is grounded in
this Mission and is strengthened by our Core
Values of Service of the Poor, Reverence,
Integrity, Wisdom, Creativity and Dedication.

FRAMEWORK
AND
DESCRIPTION
SACREDWORKS: Framework and Descriptions
5
Level I: Providing
Market Based Pay &
Recognition
Sacred Heart Health System is
committed to offering compensation programs
that are:
ï Compliant with all legal and governing
bodies
ï Competitive in each marketplace where we
ï
ï
ï
lose & recruit staff
Internally equitable
Socially Just
Financially Prudent
This applies to all of our pay practices whether
it’s base pay, premium pay or special pay. In
addition, our recognition programs offer
incentives that recognize both your collective
and individual efforts.
Level II: Protecting
Health, Income &
Property
Most of us don’t stop to think
that our greatest asset is truly our own physical
health and our ability to produce personal
income in the future. The programs
incorporated into this level of the pyramid are
designed to protect your current and future
“assets” in ways that can be adapted to meet
your personal situation and needs. Some
programs, such as Health Insurance, Dental
Insurance, Short- and Long-Term Disability
Insurance, Life Insurance and Accidental Death
& Dismemberment Insurance, are so important
that Sacred Heart either pays for Associate
Coverage in full or subsidizes a significant
portion of their total cost.
Level III: Building &
Maximizing Future
Security
Until basic income and
income protection needs are met, it is difficult
to focus on one’s future goals. The programs in
Level III help you define and meet both your
short-term and long-term financial needs.
Programs such as Flexible Spending Accounts
are intended to help you save money and taxes
for short-term needs. The Ascension Health
Retirement Well-Being Program is designed to
help you build wealth for long-term goals such
as your retirement or your dependents’ college
education. Periodically, financial education
classes and materials are provided to help you
build the skills needed to be the best steward
of your financial resources.
Level IV: Encouraging
Leisure & Convenience
Most of us would like to have
more control over our
personal time. That’s why Sacred Heart offers
on-site services such as a uniform shop, travel
agent, pharmacy, banking and cafeterias. There
are far more reaching programs such as Paid
Time Off (PTO) for planned absences that allow
time away from work for rest and rejuvenation
or to tend to important personal and family
issues. For those that like to spend leisure
time with members of their work family, the
Associate Activity Team sponsors fun and
exciting events throughout the year. All of
these programs focus on allowing you to bring
overall balance to your life.

Level V: Promoting
Fitness & Well-Being
Level VI: Enriching
Self & Spirit
Another distinguishing
characteristic of the
SACREDWORKS program is our commitment
to help Associates maintain their health and
wellness. Sacred Heart substantially invests in
Wellness University (Wellness U), a program
that is designed to help you chart a personal
course toward improving and maintaining
personal health. Wellness U offers free,
convenient classes that focus on topics such as
weight loss, stress management and
cardiovascular health.
Sacred Heart also provides programs that
support family needs such as dependent
coverage in many benefit programs, and where
possible, depending upon the operational needs
of the department, flexible scheduling and
personal leave. Another vital part of promoting
well-being is our Employee Assistance Program
(EAP). Through our counseling and referral
system, as well as comprehensive mental health
features in our medical insurance plan, we can
help Associates and their family members
address many of the challenges encountered
with everyday living. We have all been faced
with financial problems, relationship issues and
personal or work-related stress at one time or
another. Sometimes, these can become
overwhelming. Sacred Heart is committed to
offering the support network and resources
needed to manage these types of situations.
Having met the most basic
needs and building toward a
more secure and healthy future creates the
desire and opportunity to focus on our highest
level of needs. Your personal and professional
development is important not only to Sacred
Heart’s future success, but also to your own
personal success in living a full and rewarding
life. Sacred Heart invests in personal and
professional development through career
coaching and counseling, tuition assistance,
scholarships and on-site training. Our
performance management program provides
the framework for you and your manager to
collaborate on ways to identify development
opportunities and to continuously improve
your job performance and skill set. In addition,
spiritual enrichment is fostered through the
many programs sponsored
by our Mission Council. These programs are
designed to reinforce that our work is guided
by a higher power and provide Associates with
opportunities to carry on the legacy of our
founders through volunteerism and spiritual
enrichment.
Level VII: Achieving
Work / Life Balance
SACREDWORKS offers a
myriad of resources and
opportunities that allow you to create your
own map to reach short-term and long-term
personal goals. We hope that you will take the
time to learn about, appreciate and utilize
these programs in your journey to achieving
“Work / Life Balance.”
