Catalog Description: Examines biological capabilities, psychological characteristics
Purpose: and social and cultural influences on human sexual behavior.
The course emphasizes the diversity of sexual learning, attitudes and values.
Sexuality education is a lifelong process of acquiring information and forming attitudes, beliefs, and values about identity, relationships, and intimacy. This course will encompass the study of sexual anatomy and physiology, gender identity and gender roles, reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases, affection, intimacy, body image, sexual orientation and atypical sexual variations.
Students will be exposed to several different educational methodologies in order to encourage learning and personal reflection concerning values related to human sexuality.

At the end of this course, students will be able to…
Demonstrate acquisition of factual knowledge of human sexual behavior
Articulate self-awareness of feelings, attitudes and values regarding one’s sexual concept
Articulate basic understanding of how culture influences human sexual behavior
Demonstrate acquisition of knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases
Demonstrate acquisition of knowledge of body chemistry on sexual behavior

Upon application to Texas A&M University-Texarkana an individual will be assigned an

University Drop Policy
To drop this course after the 12 th class day, a student must complete the Drop/Withdrawal
Request Form, located on the University website
( http://tamut.edu/Registrar/droppingwithdrawing-from-classes.html
) or obtained in the
Registrar’s Office. The student must submit the signed and completed form to the instructor of each course indicated on the form to be dropped for his/her signature. The signature is not an “approval” to drop, but rather confirmation that the student has discussed the drop/withdrawal with the faculty member. Box 5518, Texarkana, TX 75505) or fax (903-223-3140). Drop/withdraw forms missing any of the required information will not be accepted by the Registrar’s Office for processing. If a student stops participating in class (attending and submitting assignments) but does not complete and submit the drop/withdrawal form, a final grade based on work completed as outlined in the syllabus will be assigned.

The journal article summaries are to be selected from professional journals in the area of
Human Sexual Behavior.
1.
The subject area MUST be from the chapters we are studying. The Professor must approve each journal article.
2.
Components of the summary: a.
Purpose of the study b.
Description of the procedures c.
Discussion of the results of the study d.
Your reaction to the article – what you learned and how the study relates to what you have studied in class e.
The summary is to be typed with the appearance commensurate with upper level undergraduate university work
3.
Average length should consist of four to six typed pages (double spaced)
4.
Attach a copy of the journal article to your summary
5.
Summary is worth a maximum of 50 points
6.
Late journal articles will be reduced by 10 points
