UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 HANDBOOK Official Rules & Regulations, Terms & Conditions, Requirements and Judging Criteria NESCAFÉ HUB UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 1 Welcome to the 2015 Nescafe HUB University Program (“NHUP”). We appreciate your interest in participating in this year’s inaugural event hosted by Nestle Malaysia. Our mission is to promote and nurture the entrepreneurial mindset of students and simulate real-world business experiences. This not only encourages but also accompanies young adults through the transitional phase of stepping in the professionalism industry. Nestle Malaysia will provide an avenue, the Nescafe HUB, a platform for students to create novel ideas, develop a business plan around it and execute the entire experience. Students will be able to build an understanding of their target market, craft an effective marketing strategy, and present their plans to industry professionals. Ten teams will be chosen to compete in the 2015 NHUP and selected finalists will be given the opportunity to execute their business plan and manage a world-renowned brand at their university campus. Teams will stand a chance to win cash prizes and an internship programme with Nestle Malaysia or Nestle Malaysia’s partners. GENERAL INFORMATION Each team must meet the following requirements in order to compete in NHUP 2015: 1. Eligibility 1.1 The Competition is open to all university students, irrespective of their major or program of study, who are currently enrolled in the 2015-2016 full academic year. This includes students who graduated, or will graduate in Year 2015. 1.2 If entrant is under eighteen (18) years of age, such entrant must have the consent of their parent or legal guardian to participate in the Competition. 1.3 This is a competition open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students whereby participants are required to complete the first semester of their intake prior to joining the Competition. 1.4 The required minimum CGPA of participants is 2.80. 1.5 Students must have an active role in one or more clubs, societies or any relevant extra-curricular activities. 1.6 Team size and composition: Participants are required to form a team consisting of five (5) up to eight (8) members. This is essential for the team’s Business Plan Execution during the Final Stage. All team members are required to be from the same university but can be from different faculties or courses of studies. 1.7 The Competition judging will be conducted strictly in English only. All written materials and business plan implementation must be completed or executed in English. Students must be able to speak fluently in English. 1.8 An individual or team can submit only one entry. An individual is not allowed to be a member of more than one team. 1.9 Multiple entries are not accepted. If there are multiple entries detected, the participant will be immediately disqualified from the Competition. Changes to Competition Rules: While not anticipated, rules, regulations and prizes are subject to change at the discretion of the NHUP Organizers at any time. The NHUP Organizers has the right to interpret these rules according to its own judgment. Decisions regarding the Competition and the Winners: All decisions regarding the competition rules, procedures, and processes are at the sole discretion of the NHUP Organizers. The NHUP Organizers may make changes and/or interpretations of these rules at any time, even though they may be (or may appear to be) in conflict with some previously published information. The selection of the teams to compete and the decision of the winners are at the sole discretion of the judges and the NHUP Organizers. Penalty on Withdrawal: University represented will lose rights of participation in coming years. NESCAFÉ HUB UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 3 GENERAL GUIDELINES Non-Confidentiality: All sessions of the competition, including but not limited to oral presentations and question/answer sessions, are open to the public at large. Any and all of these sessions may be broadcast to interested persons through media which may include radio, television and the Internet. Any data or information discussed or divulged in public sessions by entrants should be considered information that could possibly enter the public realm, and entrants should not assume any right of confidentiality in any data or information discussed, divulged, or presented in these sessions. Copyrights & Permissions: If a team uses copyrighted materials and/or images from a third-party in their submissions or presentations, they must obtain permission, authorization and credibility in advance from the owners to use materials. NESCAFÉ HUB UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 4 WRITTEN BUSINESS PLAN Written Business Plan Submission: A complete written business plan from the invited and confirmed 10 teams will be due to the NHUP online on or before 23:59:00 on 31st July 2015. Please submit an electronic version via email in Adobe Acrobat PDF and Power Point presentation deck to <fbsupport@mediacliq.com>. No other format will be accepted. Files should be named according to the following format: NHUP2015_TeamName_UniversityName.pdf The Business Plan has to be submitted and accompanied by the following documents (which is provided in the appendix): o o o A completed Application Form (to be filled in by the team leader) Acknowledgement Form Consent Letter (for participants below the age of 18 years) General Guidelines: Content of written business plans are limited to 10 pages of text and should include executive summary and supporting financial data. Detailed spreadsheets and appropriate appendices should follow the text portion of the plan but will be limited to 6 pages. In total, the maximum number of pages is 18, inclusive of cover page and table of contents. The Nescafe HUB: Serves as a display for students’ to watch and learn then further explore creative and innovative ideas to implement classroom learning to reality business like experiences via NHUP. Nescafe HUB Program: The second phase of this campaign – an intercampus competition which encourages students’ of all levels to bring forward their entrepreneurship knowledge and skills in a business proposal and ultimately executing it via Nescafe HUB. Contents of the Written Business Plan: Business plan should include the following: (Max 16 pages – Not inclusive of cover page and table of contents): o Cover Sheet : Team Name, University, Team Members, Team Leader Contact Info o Executive Summary o Product or Service Description : Nescafe HUB and Product Offering / Promotions o Customer/Market Analysis : Market Size, Market Share, Target Market and Audience o Sales and Marketing Plan : How you will go about marketing the Nescafe HUB o Activation Strategy : Detailed 2 week execution plan o Financial Highlights : Budget Management Appendices: Should be included only when they support the findings, statements, and observations in the plan. The text portion of the plan (10 pages) must contain all pertinent information in a clear and concise manner. All appendices must fall within the 6 page limit; any pages over this limit will not be posted or otherwise provided to the judges. References: The format for referencing should be in accordance to APA style guidelines. Should there be any use of ideation or information from any external parties, acknowledgement and credibility via referencing is compulsory. Plagiarism: The use of someone else's language, ideas, information or original material without acknowledging the source. Plagiarism is a serious offence and any team that commits plagiarism will be disqualified immediately. NESCAFÉ HUB UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 5 Restrictions: Amendment or any sort of changes on Nescafe branding is strictly prohibited. Any development of visuals or activities must be acknowledged and approved by the NHUP Organizers. Actions will be taken on participants who disobey the highlighted restrictions. Changes Business Plan: Modification of submitted written business plan after 31st July 2015 is highly restricted. However, should you feel the need to modify your written plans, you may add on during oral presentations session on campus. Any changes thereafter would be penalized / deduction of score. ORAL PRESENTATION Oral presentations will take place at Nestle Malaysia’s office in Kuala Lumpur Teams should arrive at Nestle Malaysia at their designated presentation time on 15th August 2015. Each team will be given a maximum of 15 minutes to present proposed business plan. The presentation will be followed by a 10 minute feedback and question-and-answer session with the judges. There will only be 5 minutes between each presentation for teams to set-up. Each team should be in position at least 15 minutes prior to their allocated presentation time slot. Teams who fail to attend the oral presentation session will be automatically disqualified. Equipment: Teams should bring media i.e. laptop and a copy of presentation slides in a zip drive or CD. Each presentation room is equipped with a large-screen projector and adaptor to connect your laptop directly to the projector to run the presentation. Teams using Mac laptop, is required to bring own video adapter or any other necessary equipment to ensure connectivity to the A/V system in the room is secured. NESCAFÉ HUB UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 6 SCORING AND EVALUATION PROCESS • The Written Business Plan will be evaluated based on the following aspects: Executive Summary Compact, exciting and effective Product or Service Description Clear understanding of the product and services features, USP, and price Market and Marketing Strategy Description of market, competitive analysis, identifying unique and solid sales/promotion plan, viability Activation Strategy Providing a detailed plan on: 1) Rejuvenation of Brand Image 2) Approach in maximizing sales / generating revenue Financial Summary Presented in summary form, easy to read and understand, consistent with plans and effectiveness Overall Assessment of Written Plan Clear and compelling • Ten (10) teams with the best Written Business Plan will be shortlisted to present their Business Plan and undergo an interview session with the panel of judges. • The Oral Presentation will be evaluated based on the following aspects: Distinctive Idea The team provides something novel / unique / special that gives it a competitive advantage in its market Management Capability Team can effectively develop this Business Plan and handle overall management of the Nescafe HUB Financial Understanding This team has a solid understanding of the financial basis of the business industry Presentation Skills: Team presented should venture in a logical, persuasive manner Charisma, Clarity, Persuasiveness and with the ability to answer practical questions well. Result Orientation. • Five (5) finalists will be selected and required to implement their Business Plan at their university campus for the duration of two (2) weeks. The designated dates to implement the Business Plan on-ground will be arranged and communicated between the NHUP organizers and finalists. o Top 5 finalists teams are required to attend ALL necessary pre-event briefings and basic trainings to manage the Nescafe HUB. Failure to do so may cause the team to be disqualified from the competition. o All team members are expected to be present throughout the duration of Nescafe HUB’s operating hours. On ground participation of all team members (according to shifts) contributes to the score board based on evaluation from judges. NESCAFÉ HUB UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 7 • o An appointed supervisor from the organizing committee will be present at all times with the respective on-ground teams to oversee the conduct and management of the operations. Team leaders may seek the advice of the supervisor should there be any need of clarifications related to the SOP of Nescafe. o The management reserves all rights to revoke participants’ operations and / or disqualify teams, should there be any misconduct during the execution of the Business Plan. o RM500 budget will be provided to the Top 5 Finalist teams to assist in the Business Plan implementation. It can be used to purchase or develop the necessary items required to conduct the Proposed Business Plan of the Nescafe HUB. o Sales Incentives will be given to teams who are able to achieve the Daily Key Performance Indicator (KPI) at 1,200 cups per day/12,000 cups per venue (of two weeks or 10 days operations) The Business Plan Execution will be evaluated based on the following aspects: Sales Sales record, performance and ability to achieve given KPI Business Plan Implementation Ability to execute all stages of the Proposed Business Plan Business Plan effectiveness and success Organizational Skills Delivery, Management and Operational Efficiency Teamwork and Attitude Positive attitude and good teamwork Votes (Likes) Based on support from the respective university population Or the consumer engagement experience between teams and potential customers NESCAFÉ HUB UNIVERSITY PROGRAM 2015 8 AWARDS Champion i) Trophy ii) 3 months internship programme at Nestle Malaysia* iii) Cash Prize of RM5000 iv) 1 year of Nescafe Products First Runner Up i) Trophy ii) Cash Prize of RM3000 iii) 1 year of Nescafe Products Second Runner Up i) Trophy ii) Cash Prize of RM2000 iii) 1 year of Nescafe Products Finalists i) Trophy ii) Cash Prize of RM1000 iii) 1 year of Nescafe Products Terms & Conditions All prizes are subject to first to be awarded, first to accept basis Awardees must either accept or reject prizes accordingly. Any delay in response exceeding given duration is automatically considered as forfeit of prize. Should there be no response from awardees upon notification of winning prizes, organizers reserve all rights to hand over the prize to the next winning team in line. *Internship placement is subjected to Nestle Malaysia’s sole discretion. Nestle Malaysia reserves the right to place students at any department in the organization or its affiliate companies. *Internship opportunity is only valid within the duration provided by Nestle Malaysia. Winning candidates / students should manage all necessary documentation, visa or travel expense prior to acceptance of commitment to the awarded career opportunity. Nestle Malaysia is not liable for any direct or indirect cause or effect to candidates / students education system i.e. clashing with final examination or deferring of semester that causes delay of graduation.
