The ARTS Hub Working Meeting: Notes from 6/8/2015
Creativity~Community~Connection
The Arts Hub:
 Facilitates innovative, creative and inclusive arts curriculum for our students;
 Showcases our students, faculty and staff’s artistic work in a collaborative
environment both on-campus and off-campus; and
 Develops a stronger community within the college and Bergen County through
the Arts.
* Dr. Kim welcomed two new group members, Jessica Datema and Brian Cordell, and thanked
them for joining.


Although no agenda was prepared the following items were discussed:
- All past meeting notes can be found on the BCC website, under Student Success
initiatives – Working Group: Arts Hub. An updated list of events through Spring
2016 was passed out and will be added to the Arts Hub web page.
- Dr. Kim stated we hope to end this meeting with one concrete item to carry out
in Fall 2015.
Suggestions for an Arts Day were discussed:
- Jessica and Brian mentioned a Poet on Campus event in the fall and Dr. Kim
suggested linking this event to an Arts Day. Jessica brought up a possible grant
from the National Endowment for Humanities, designated for community
colleges. If applied and granted these funds could support the days’ events.
Jessica will send Dr. Kim the information for Dr. Kim to bring this to Grants
Administrations attention.
- Outline for the Arts Day; is a theme necessary - incorporating several disciplines,
(visual & preforming arts, literature & poetry readings, culinary arts, and
horticulture.) This could balance the day and help promote the programs offered
at BCC.
- Working with already scheduled events; it was decided to choose Thursday,
October 15, 2015 as the day for this event. The Faculty and Staff exhibit will be
active in Gallery Bergen and ARS Nova in the Ciccone theatre can be the
culmination to the day.
- Perhaps venues outside around campus; tents, booths, unconventional spaces.

Starting the event in the afternoon going through early evening – to include
evening students.
Participating in the Teen Arts Festival next spring was mentioned. This would
need planning now and contact with the organizer of the event would have to
take place…is this doable?
- Next Arts Hub Meeting Date: Wednesday, July, 22, 2015 @ 3pm.
- Events update….Please e-mail Ruth Ann Heck your department’s Fall 2015 - Spring
2016 calendar of events. We will add an updated list of events to the Arts Hub web
page.
