Tour IV: Half day tour of The Louvre which is one of the largest museums in the world and the largest museum in Paris. Its area consists of 210,000 meters including 60,600 dedicated to expositions. Located in the heart of the city, between the right bank of the Seine and the rue de Rivoli, in the first district; the building is a former royal palace. The equestrian statue of Louis XIV constitutes the starting point of the historic axis, but the palace is not aligned on this axis. The Louvre has a long history of artistic and historic conservation of France from the Capetian Kings to today. You can see: The Venus de Milo, The Victory of Samothrace and Leonardo de Vincis’s Mona Lisa. Also called "Ladies Castle", it was built, managed and cared for by women. Chenonceau was built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, embellished by Diane de Poitiers, mistress of King Henri II of France and Catherine de Medici, and was saved during the French Revolution by Louise Dupin. This castle is famous for its exceptional gardens, architecture, decoration, and its location; it spans the River Cher. The castle houses a collection of exceptional paintings by the great masters: Tintoretto, Nicolas Poussin, Correggio, and Rubens, as well as a selection of Flemish tapestries from the sixteenth century.
