Proposed MYMS Tour – Paris, France
Provisional dates, 3-7 August 2015
Dear Parents and Players
The MYMS Tour Sub-Group is planning a tour to Paris for the summer of 2015, which, before you get
out your calendars, is just under 20 months away. We are proposing a five days, four nights tour, with
four concerts. The venues that we are looking at include The American Cathedral, La Madeleine
Church and Disneyland Resort Paris, and as part of the Parks and Gardens’ concert series, there are a
selection of covered stages and bandstands that we could also play at, including the Champs de Mars
(in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower) and Jardin du Luxembourg band stand.
As for sight-seeing, in addition to the delights of Disney, we could take a cruise on the River Seine, visit
the Eiffel Tower, Palace of Versailles, Jardin du Luxenbourg, Sacre Couer Church & the Artists’ Corner
at the Place du Tertre, the Auvers sur l’Oise, where Van Goch painted some of his most familiar works
and Monet’s house and gardens at Giverny. We could do some ‘leche vitrine’ or serious shopping at
the department stores, Printemps and Gallery Lafayette.
Early estimates of cost come in at around £410, inclusive of food and insurance. The MYMS
committee has already voted a sizeable fund to the tour, which will be used to subsidise the cost for
players who wish to go. However, were you to need more financial help, we hope to be in a position to
offer bursaries, so please approach a member of the committee, or the MYMS Manager, to discuss this
further.
We hope that all players in MYWO, MYO and our more determined members of the Concert Band
will go. We have nearly two years of preparation!
In terms of expressing interest, which at this stage is not a commitment, would you please fill in the
attached reply slip, which will give us a good indication of the viability of the tour in terms of numbers
and balance of instruments. As for payment, we would like a £50 cheque by Friday 7th February
2014, which will not at this stage be banked. Were we to go ahead, this would be followed by cheques
for £25 at monthly intervals from March 2014 to July 2015. Hopefully spreading the cost over 20
months will help with finance. When we know that the tour is viable we will contact the players and
parents, and bank the cheques. Any financial commitment will be refundable until we make a
commitment to the company that we contract with to make the necessary arrangements.
