In other words, their motivation drives them to start and sustain effective ways of learning, ranging from individual initiatives to nationwide programs. What do these language activities look like? The presentations will be organized into 60-minute segments. There will be no concurrent sessions, allowing attendees to participate in all sessions. There will be networking sessions with the presenters and with each other in the afternoons. Sylvia McAdam (Saysewahum), Nehiyaw (Cree) Nation Keynote Address BIO: Sylvia McAdam is one of the founders of Idle No More movement which has gained world-wide recognition as "a peaceful revolution to honour indigenous sovereignty, and to protect the land and water." She has her Juris Doctorate and a bachelor’s degree in Human Justice and is currently employed at University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Sylvia is recipient of the Carol Geller Human Rights Award, Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers Award, Activist of the Year Award and Social Justice Award. She is the author of a book called “Cultural Teachings: First Nations Protocols and Methodologies”. Sylvia is considered an Indigenous knowledge keeper who is fluent in her people’s language; she states: “There are three core elements to nationhood: Land, Language and Culture.” 2. Missy Whiteman (Arapaho), Filmmaker/Director, Independent Indigenous Film & Media. “Incorporating Native Languages in My Films that Address Youth Issues” 3. Natasha Stevens (Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin) “I Will Learn to Speak Oneida: Carrying Forth Maria Hinton’s Legacy” 4.
