Funding Available Earn your Ph.D. in Communication Sciences & Disorders at the University of South Alabama POSITION AVAILABLE: The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile has openings for qualified, motivated individuals to pursue a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. If you are interested in teaching or research, then you may wish to pursue a Ph.D. degree. Qualified individuals have strong academic credentials including a combined verbal and quantitative score of 1000 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The value of this position is $14,000.00 (annual stipend) plus a tuition waiver of 10 credits per semester (approximate value of $1,940.00 in-state and $3,880.00 out-of-state) for 3 years. Since 1992, 20 students have earned Ph.D.s from USA. The Department of Speech Pathology & Audiology at USA has opportunities to work with over 15 academic and clinical faculty members in a range of professional areas including language, voice, neurogenic disorders, autism and developmental disabilities, aging, psychoacoustics, cochlear implants, hearing aids, multicultural issues, auditory processing disorder, and fluency. Current research studies include adult and pediatric populations, as well as interdisciplinary projects. Our program has 8 research laboratories housed in a new building. Our department shares the building with the USA Speech and Hearing Center as well as other Allied Health departments and the College of Nursing, and the College of Medicine is in close proximity. This facilitates cross-disciplinary projects and clinical research. Recent advances in research at USA are evidenced by the new Cancer Research Institute, the Center for Healthy Communities, and the Health Disparities Research Group, to name a few innovative projects.
