An avid sports fan and exercise buff, Dr. llccown jogs daily and swims three tines a week.
He also enjoys opera, the Broadway theater, reading, traveling.
Dr" Mccown, an ohio native, is narried to the forner Frances Ellison and resides in New
York city. Their onLy son, a }larvard Law School graduatef is an investment banker in New
York Cj.ty. The Mccowns have two grandchildren.

Dr. Janes Forrest Scott is a retired physician and the only Black
nenber of the L929 Graduating Class of The Ohio State Universj.ty
College of Medicine. He was born in Porter, ohj.o on July 29, 1903.
He moved to Portsmouttr, Ohio in 1930 rrhere he began. his practice of
Medicine. During the crucial and critical days of the 1937 f1ood,
Dr. Scott, along with other area physj,cians delivered energency medical
senrice to thousands of Portsmouth and Scioto County residents.
Dr. Scott, in 1954, nas elected Scioto County Coroner, ranking hin as
the first elected Black Coroner in The United States, a signifj.cant
achieveroent recognized by rnany. Dr. scott brought to the office roodern
equipnent such as the crine laboratory to assj.st in evaluating
suspicious death.
iiei.l recognized and celebrated, Dr. Scott has held nunerous past positions and nernberships
';hich include: Director of the }Iealth Departuent in PortsEouth, uelober of The American
Sedj.cal Associ.ation, Ohio State Medical Society, Scioto county Medical Society,
:nternatj.onal Associ.ation of Coroners and Medical Exaniners, the ohio State Coronersf
aeaber and past president of the Scioto County Criroe Cli.nic, member and past Hasterof
Trinity Lodge F&Altf 9 PHA Masonic Body.
Dr, Scott has had a distinguj.shed career of 45 years serrring the people of PortsEouth and
Scioto County. Because of his Eany years of dedicated nedical se:rrice, the City of
Portstrouth in 1984 renamed portions- oi 12th Street the Dr. Janes F. Scott Place and
portions of U.s. 52 west and East, Dr. Jaloes F. Scott Drive.
:n 1974, Dr. Scott retired fron the practice of nedicj.ne and resides in PortsBouth, Ohi.o
rith his sife !{uri.el. His children are June. Jatres Jr., and Robert.
At
the age of 84, Dr. Scott is the second oldest living Black Alunnus of The Ohio State

A legacy lJas beg"un 51 years ago when Dr. John Douglas white was
graduated froB The ohi.o State University College of Medicine. His son,
.John JE., is a 1955 graduate and his grandson, Mark Crawley, is
presently a third year medical student, Three generations of the John
D. Fhite fanily at The OSU college of Medicine.
Dr.l{hite received his B.A. degree in 1932 from Lincoln University
(P.A.) and his H.D. Degree in 1936 fron The oSU coLlege of Medj.cine.
In 1937, he began his Fanily Practice in Colunbus, Ohio. Dr. white has
been of service to the Columbus connunity for almost f:.fty years and i.s
affectionately called by his friends and colieagues the "Dean of Family
Practitionersrt. Dr. Whj.te has serrred on the staffs of crant, St.
Anthony/ Mercy and University Hospitals. He is presently the oldest
31ack physician on staff at crant Hospital. Dr. White has served on the Mid-ohio Health
?lanning commj-ttee, The Board of Management of the YHCA for 31 yearsf and hol.ds rnenberships
:n Sigma Pi Phi Bou1e, The American Medical Association, the National Medical Association,
a::C Ornega Psi Pi Fraternity.
lr. White, the oldest Black Alurnnus residi-ng in Columbus, was born March 27, 1910, in
3anesvi1Ie, ohlo. He is married to the forrner Minnie Gi1] and they have three chj.ldren,
?hyl]is/ John Jr., and Doris, and six grandchildren. Reti.red since March l-985, Dr. white
spends much time with his hobbi.es whlch j.nclude: photography, walking, woodworking,
gardening, and co].lecti.ng knives and razors, The Whites are members of the Trinity
'piscopal Church.

Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Sniley received his B.A. degree frora The ohio state uni,vers::y ::1933 and his I.{.D. degree fron OSU in 193?. After completing a su=g::a:
internship and residences in pathorogy and obstetrics and gi.recc).cg1- a-HoT?I.Phil}ips, he was appointed Acting Director of patholigy at i::e:
Phillips in 1943 and Associate Chief of Obstetrics and Cyneccicgi., ::
1945 lrhere he sened until 1967.
In 1957, Dr. Sniley was appointed Project Director of the St. Louis Maternal Infant. Care
(M.I.c.) and held this position until 1980. As project director, he worked

st. Louis Board of Education to establish, in 1goz, the St. Louis school lrith
