There are many opportunities for faculty and staff to engage in a wide variety of personal and
professional development experiences across campus. The experiences below include
networking opportunities, development grants, and university communities.
Association of Staff and Faculty Women (http://asfw.osu.edu/)
The Association of Staff and Faculty Women is committed to supporting the professional
development of all staff and faculty women at The Ohio State University through networking
opportunities and unique programming.
Bill and Susan Lhota Office of Alumni Career Management
(http://www.ohiostatealumni.org)
Experienced career consultants can help alumni in all stages of their career. Using a variety of
career development tools and services, they facilitate a community of Buckeyes helping
Buckeyes! Services are available for all Ohio State University alumni.
Critical Difference for Women Professional Development Grants

Critical Difference for Women (CDW) is a scholarship/grant offering program of Ohio State
offering financial support to women students, faculty and staff. CDW is comprised of three
funds:



Re-entry Scholarships for women who have interrupted their education due to
unforeseen obstacles such as family responsibilities or financial constraints;
Research on Women Grants for faculty members and doctoral students (both male and
female) who are conducting research on all areas of women's lives;
Professional Development Grants for women to facilitate professional development
and career mobility of women.
Ohio State University Administrative Professionals (OSUAP)
The OSUAP is a self-organized group of Ohio State administrative staff committed to ongoing
professional development and networking to facilitate professional growth, while positively
impacting their supervisors, coworkers, and supporting the mission of the University. Contact

Staff Career Development Grants (http://hr.osu.edu/special/specgrants.aspx)
Staff Career Development Grants (maximum $1,000 for individuals and $1,500 for groups) are
awarded each year to assist eligible Ohio State staff members with education and training costs
associated with the pursuit of professional development and career goals. Grants may be
awarded for expenses such as registration fees, tuition fees, textbooks and travel expenses.

Staff Manager Development Grants (http://hr.osu.edu/special/managergrants.aspx)
Staff Manager Development Grants (maximum $1,000 each) provide financial support to assist
staff managers seeking to sharpen management skills, encourage participation in activities that
further professional development and enhance behaviors that support the university’s values.
Tuition Assistance (http://hr.osu.edu/benefits/eb_tuitionassistance.aspx)
The university offers a tuition assistance benefit to eligible faculty and staff, which is credited
toward the Instructional and General fees for courses taken at Ohio State. The benefit is also
available to spouses and dependents of faculty and staff. For more information, check out the

The Women’s Place (http://womensplace.osu.edu/)
The Women's Place serves as a catalyst for institutional change to expand opportunities for
women's growth, leadership and power in an inclusive, supportive, and safe university
environment. The Women's Place offers programs such as Staff Leadership Series, Staff
Professional Development Mentorship Program, and the President's and Provost's Leadership
Institute for women on the faculty.
University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) (http://usac.osu.edu/)
The University Staff Advisory Committee was established in 1986 as an advisory body to the
president of The Ohio State University and is an advocate for more than 22,000 university staff.
Since it’s founding, USAC has helped to improve and expand staff benefits in healthcare,
compensation guidelines, dependent tuition, life insurance, personal information security, area
retail discounts, parental leave, and much more.
