The light sensor includes a fiber optic probe and an electronics module containing an amplifier and a selenium photocell. The photocell allows the Light Sensor to make measurements of relative light intensity. The range is 1-300 lux. Spectral response peaks at 575 nm. Additional Equipment Required: • Signal Interface, [AI-6501 (Apple®II), CI-6500 (IBM PC®), CI-6550 (Macintosh®)] Additional Equipment Recommended: • Light Source, PASCO Model SE-9473 ➤ NOTE: Use care when handling the probe. The optical fibers inside may be damaged if the cable is bent sharply. Do not coil tighter than a 4 inch circle. Be sure not to damage the input end of the probe. Scratches may impair light transmission. Scratched or dirty probe ends may be cleaned up by grinding the damaged end of the probe lightly on a fine grinding stone. Probe ends may also be cut off square with a sharp single edged knife. ➀ Insert the 8-pin DIN plug into Analog Channel A, B, or C of the PASCO Signal Interface. ➁ Attach the Fiber Optic Probe by slipping the connector of the fiber optic probe over the LIGHT SENSOR input connector on the Light Sensor as shown above. A quarter twist clockwise locks the probe to the Light Sensor. © 1992 PASCO scientific This instruction sheet written/edited by: Dave Griffith better 10101 Foothills Blvd. • P.O. (Damage caused by improper packing of the equipment for return shipment will not be covered by the warranty.) Shipping costs for returning the equipment, after repair, will be paid by PASCO scientific. TIVITY ADJUST knob. You can use the interface software to calibrate the sensor. Place the sensor as close to the light source as possible, or as close as it needs to be for the particular experiment. Turn the sensitivity adjust knob toward “MAX” until the sensor produces a maximum voltage of about 9.9 V. Equipment Return ➤ NOTE: If the light source is dim, or the sensor must be held away from the light source, the maximum voltage might not reach 9.9 V. The sensor's highest voltage reading corresponds to a “100%” relative intensity. For the second point, cover the sensor opening on the box (or cover the end of the fiber optic probe), and confirm that the sensor produces a voltage of about zero. This voltage corresponds to a “0%” relative intensity. Should this product have to be returned to PASCO scientific, for whatever reason, notify PASCO scientific by letter or phone BEFORE returning the product. Upon notification, the return authorization and shipping instructions will be promptly issued. ➤ NOTE: NO EQUIPMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR RETURN WITHOUT AN AUTHORIZATION. When returning equipment for repair, the units must be packed properly. Carriers will not accept responsibility for damage caused by improper packing. To be certain the unit will not be damaged in shipment, observe the following rules: Limited Warranty PASCO scientific warrants this product to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of shipment to the customer. PASCO will repair or replace, at its option, any part of the product which is deemed to be defective in material or workmanship. This warranty does not cover damage to the product caused by abuse or improper use. Determination of whether a product failure is the result of a manufacturing defect or improper use by the customer shall be made solely by PASCO scientific. Responsibility for the return of equipment for warranty repair belongs to the customer. ➀ The carton must be strong enough for the item shipped. ➁ Make certain there is at least two inches of packing material between any point on the apparatus and the inside walls of the carton. ➂ Make certain that the packing material can not shift in the box, or become compressed, thus letting the instrument come in contact with the edge of the box.
