The MTELP, or Michigan Test of English Language Proficiency, is a language certificate measuring a student’s English ability as a second or foreign language. Its primary purpose is to access a learner's English language ability at an acedemic or advanced business level. The MTELP consists of 100 questions assessing grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. The Secondary Level English Proficiency (SLEP) test was designed to assess the English proficiency of high school aged student whose native language is not English. The SLEP is a norm referenced test that reflects the most current ESL teaching methodology. SLEP test questions are divided into eight different types of multiple choice questions. SLEP was designed to determine the placement level of English learners or whether they can be exempted from a bilingual program. It is not designed to be predictive of TOEFL success. However, there is strong correlation between TOEFL and SLEP scores. A student who scores in the 99th percentile on the SLEP could be expected to rank similarly on TOEFL. The same is true for other scores as well. AMVN Exchange/AECT Ltd. Co. is an education services and student placementcompany, specializing in the United States education system.
