Season’s Greetings from everyone at SCM! To all of our valued customers and suppliers we sincerely hope that 2014 has brought you everything you expected and wish you a very prosperous 2015.
Doesn’t time fly? It has certainly been a busy year for SCM and as we draw the curtain on 2014 it seems apt to sit back and review another successful year for the company.
With exciting new projects being won, new customers on board, relationships strengthened with our loyal customer base and a number of new faces in the ever growing team, there is plenty to be positive about for next year.
The addition of an extra building is certainly a sign of the times and has provided both extra capacity and a large extra floor space dedicated to laying out customer systems.
From a projects perspective we have seen some high profile systems delivered to a range of our aerospace customers across both the UK and Europe.
From one of Britain’s best loved cider producers to an international supplier of white goods, SCM has manufactured a variety of Robot
Systems to a range of different customer specifications and continues to build upon its solid relationship with KUKA Robotics .
Roll related handling continues to be a significant area of growth for the company with the renewal of ongoing global contracts and the manufacture of several key reel handling systems in the UK.

Central to the company’s continued success has been the recruitment of some new faces into the team. As the company has grown, so too have the electrical, mechanical and aftersales teams and we are incredibly excited about the future and working with some more extremely talented individuals.

Cider Producer
SCM was delighted to be commissioned by one of the UK’s leading cider producers to design and manufacture a
Robotic Keg Handling System.
The brief was to design a system to pick empty casks from pallets and load them onto a conveyor which feeds them to a cask washer with the additional challenge of picking the interleave layer boards from between the layers of casks, placing them onto a stack for reuse in the operation to palletise full casks.
West Country Cheese Maker reaps the rewards of automation
SCM played a key role in increasing production capacity for Somerset based
Barber’s Cheese with the supply of a robotic cheese de-palletising system.
The cell which adopts a KUKA KR180 has played its part in ensuring Barber’s remain ahead of the competition.
SCM’s proven Reel Manipulator suspended from a free standing steel gantry was the obvious choice. The system includes an adjustable probe to accommodate the varying reel sizes and is already providing results for the customer.

The workshop floor was transformed into a mini exhibition centre, showcasing a selection of SCM’s robotic and manual handling equipment. The team was closely supported by a number of its key suppliers including KUKA Robotics UK.
Four of our intrepid team raise over £2500 for Action Medical
Research
Jon Boulton, Mike Crarer, Dave Chaffey and Steven Boulton completed a grueling selection of challenges in the
Brecon Beacons in a respectable time of 9 hours 47 minutes.
Managing Director Jon Boulton summed up the day:
“It was an extremely busy two days and certainly surpassed our expectations…
It was a pleasure to host the event and invite our existing and potentially new customers to not only meet the team, but to see for themselves the quality of our equipment and understand how
SCM works.”
The event included a 47 mile cycle ride, an 8 mile hike up and down the notorious Pen-y-Fan and a 3 mile canoe around Pontsticill reservoir. The team plan on beating their time next year so watch this space!

The addition means that customers can get a representative view of their system during FAT and prior to shipping to site, a luxury that has so far been well received by SCM’s customer base.

Dominic Bancroft (Mechanical
Design Engineer)
Dominic brings with him a wealth of experience gained from several years working in materials handling in his native South Africa.
As well as bringing with him the core technical competencies required for the role, his customer facing skills and project management experience make him an ideal fit for the SCM team.
An award winning engineer, Dominic’s high standards were evident from his first interview and SCM are delighted to have him on board.
Eddie Allen (Purchasing &
Aftersales Support) Marc brings with him over twenty years experience within OEM and Tier 1 automotive environments as well as with food/drink production and packaging equipment.
His extensive experience with a variety of PLC and SCADA packages ensure that he can hit the ground running in an already high achieving team. This, coupled with his strong project management skills and customer facing experience makes him a real asset to the company.
SCM is delighted to welcome Eddie
Allen to the purchasing and after sales team.
Eddie’s engineering background stands him in good stead for the role where he will be dealing with customer enquiries, looking after key accounts for the business and general purchasing.
He has already made a great impression with SCM’s customer base and we are pleased to welcome him to the team.

SCM is pleased to welcome Alex
Bush to the company as a new
Electrical Design Engineer.
As orders have increased, so has the amount of work in the design office and SCM have reacted accordingly, bringing Alex in to work within an already busy and thriving team.
Our controls systems team is now in a better position than ever to react to customer requirements as the company continues to go from strength to strength.
