AU ONLINE LIBRARY AND DATABASE COLLECTION TUTORIAL: How to Locate Dissertations Elizabeth Windsor– Subject Specialist Librarian, Argosy University, Seattle Campus To search for dissertations, access the Online Library via your Campus Common and then select the “Find Now” box below the FindDissertations option: Selecting “Find Now” should lead you to the following page: As you can see, there are many databases which offer dissertations. The largest and most comprehensive dissertation database is Digital Dissertations and Theses, the first option listed. Below the listing of dissertation-related databases is a listing of websites which offer access to dissertations, both free and for purchase. Below is an example of a query within the Digital Dissertations and Theses database: Simply enter your search term in the field above and click on the magnifying glass icon to search. Digital Dissertations and Theses also offers an Advanced search option (circled above in red) for indepth queries. Looking for Argosy-Specific Dissertations? To search for Argosy-specific dissertations, visit the Argosy University Seattle Campus Library homepage: http://argosy.campusguides.com/seattlelibrary. There is also a link to the AU Seattle Campus Library homepage in the Student Portal under the Useful Links menu (to the far right of the screen). This example shows a link to the Dallas Campus Library; your Student Portal should simply have a “Library” link. Be careful not to confuse the smaller “Library” link with the larger “Library Click here” icon. The “Library Click Here” icon leads to the Online Library, Argosy University’s collection of online resources, while the smaller “Library” link leads to the AU Seattle Campus Library homepage. Below is the Argosy University Seattle Campus Library homepage: To search for Argosy-specific dissertations, select the “Search the Catalog” tab: Once you are on the “Search the Catalog” page, select the “Argosy University Seattle Catalog” from the “Search the Catalog: Argosy University, Seattle Campus” box. Once you are on the Search the Catalog: Argosy University Seattle Catalog page, enter the word “DISS” into the search field. The search is automatically set to look within “Any World Anywhere,” as shown highlighted in blue below. Type “DISS” into the “Search For” field as shown. DISS is an abbreviation for dissertation. All Argosy-specific dissertations are reference items, so they do not leave the library. You are more than welcome to come view the dissertations during open hours. There are 106 dissertations at the Seattle Campus Library. All the call numbers include the word “DISS,” as shown circled above. The Library now carries electronic as well as physical copies of the most recent dissertations. If a dissertation is digitized, you will be able to access the electronic copy once you click on a title (as shown above in blue text). An example of a dissertation listing with an electronic copy is shown on the following page. Click on the “Dissertation available. Click to download.” Option to access the electronic full-text copy of the dissertation. You will need a password; contact the library (206.239.2359) for this password.
