GREENS REPORT
t is the start of another golfing season at the
Antelope Valley Country Club. As you come out to
the club make any new members or visitors feel
welcome. If you should play a round of golf with them
make sure everyone in your group observes proper golf
etiquette.
1. Start by replacing your divots. Each fleet cart has two
containers of divot mix. If you run out of divot mix,
there are 30 gallon refilling buckets located
throughout the golf course. Refill the containers and
continue repairing your divots throughout your
round of golf.
2. Enter the bunkers from the lowest point of entry.
Make your shot out of the bunker. Rake out your
footprints and exit the bunker the same way you
entered.
Replace the bunker rake inside the
bunker.
3. Don’t walk up or down the steep grass banks of the
bunker. We have had several instances in the past
where a golfer has damaged a bunker grass bank by
walking up the steep slope and the turf gave way.
Walking up or down the grass banks in soft spikes is
dangerous. We certainly don’t want any broken
ankles or legs.
4. Keep the golf carts on the cement cart paths as much
as possible. Use the 90 degree golf cart rule
whenever and as often as possible. Keep the golf cart
30 yards from the greens.
Follow the cart
directional signs located throughout the golf course.
These signs are there for your safety and to speed up
the rate of play.
5. Please find and repair your ball marks on every
green. The Pro Shop has an abundant supply of ball
mark repair tools. If you don’t own a ball mark
repair tool, buy one and make it a vital part of your
golf game. Leave each green in better shape than
you found it.
Listed below are tips on how to repair your ball marks
or divots, and bunker etiquette:
Repairing Ball Marks





Use almost any pointed device, but preferably a ball
mark repair tool
Gently lift the compressed area, being careful not
to twist, to create a smooth surface
If the grass is completely torn from the green,
carefully stretch the surrounding turf into small
voids. On large holes simply lift the depression
Use your putter or foot to lightly tap down the
mark
Ball marks are often far away from the point where
the ball lies, so check the front of the green. Fix
your own ball mark as well as others
Bunker Etiquette






Smooth footprints and depressions after bunker
shots
Always enter and exit bunker at the low side on the
same path to avoid damage to the bunker face
Use a rake to smooth the sand surface as opposed
to shoes or clubs
Try not to pull large amounts of sand over the edge
of the bunker
When finished, place the rake inside of the bunker
and parallel to the line of play, to reduce any
potential play interference
Should the ball come to rest on or against a rake in
the bunker, the player may proceed under Rule 24-1
Please make an effort to pick up your broken tees and
place them in the trash cans provided on each tee box.
Also dispose of your cigar and cigarette butts in the
same manner.
Please keep the private and the fleet carts out of the
desert vegetation between fairways. These are
environmentally sensitive areas. As the native plants
are damaged, you are destroying the habitats of many
of the quail, rabbits and other forms of wild life. It is
essential to keep all of the carts on the golf course turf
or on the cart paths.

The First Annual WGA Westcott Blow-Out Tournament was a Great Success! We had 30 players from all golfing
abilities. The Format was such that all ladies had an opportunity to participate and win. We all had a good time and
had the opportunity to play with great ladies that we don’t golf with on a regular basis.
As mentioned in the May Newsletter, this tournament takes the place of our previous two-day Westcott Tournament and honors our founding President, Louise Westcott. Thank you Andrea Dilger and Anne Caulfield for conducting this fun and well-planned tournament. Great Job!
Following the tournament, we all met in the dining room and enjoyed a Chicken Piccata dinner prepared by Chef
Leo. Thank you Chef, everything was delicious. Also, a special thank you to Bridgette for the excellent service and
cheerful attitude. We appreciate all you do for us.
