Books & Other Materials Roger, the UCSD Libraries’ online catalog, contains bibliographic records for all formats of materials the Libraries own, along with information on their location and current availability. The ―Request‖ button above a bibliographic record can be used to recall an item currently on loan to another person or to have a book pulled from the shelves of one library and delivered to another one. Create your PIN in Roger to use this service and to view your own library account. http://roger.ucsd.edu The Circuit is a combination of the library catalogs of UCSD, SDSU, USD, CSU San Marcos, and the SD County Library system. When a book is not available at any UCSD library, or if UCSD’s copy of a book is checked out, you may request any available Circuit copy for delivery to UCSD within two working days. You may also borrow books in person at any Circuit library with your UCSD ID and library PIN. See http://circuit.sdsu.edu (or use the link from Roger). Melvyl is the catalog of the University of California system, listing books and other materials owned by each of the ten UC campuses. You may use the ―Request‖ button to have an item that is not available at UCSD delivered to the UCSD library of your choice. In fall 2009, a ―NextGen Melvyl‖ is being piloted. See http://ucsd.worldcat.org/ WorldCat is a bibliographic database combining records from virtually all of the research and public libraries in North America and many from other areas of the world. Access it from the ―Databases A-Z‖ link from the Library’s homepage (http://sshl.ucsd.edu) or from NextGen Melvyl. . Article Databases The Libraries provide over 350 specialized journal article databases to the UCSD community. When you know the name of the database you wish to search, use the ―Databases A-Z‖ link from the SSHL homepage. If you want to browse databases by subject, please visit: http://libraries.ucsd.edu/resources/find-articles-bysubject/index.html The most important database for literature and cultural studies is the MLA International Bibliography, but see SAGE for others. Within most article databases, including MLAIB, a button with the orange logo ―UC eLinks‖ accompanies each citation. This button brings up links to any available electronic text of the article and/or links to Roger and Melvyl. Sage is the UCSD Libraries’ gateway to the Web. It includes links to databases and online journals licensed for UCSD users as well as free websites, journals, and other resources that have been selected for university-level researchers. http://libraries.ucsd.edu/sage/subject?subject=64 .
