Circulation & Reserve Book Service: 1 South Located at the main entrance to the Davidson Library. Students use their Access cards to check out books and or pick up Interlibrary Loan items. UCSB reserve materials are available here. Many of the study notes, exams, etc. are also available on ERes, the electronic reserves service. Classes Interdisciplinary 1 and 100: Library classes offered for credit introduce students to library research methods and resources including the Web and article databases. Copying & Printing Self-service photocopiers are available and will accept copy cards and cash. Purchase a copy card for photocopiers, computer printers, and microformat copiers. Curriculum Lab: 1 North The children's literature collection, approved state textbooks, and teaching software are kept here. East Asian Studies Collection: 5th floor Materials in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages are located on the 5th floor. Staff in the East Asian Collection offices (Rooms 5537 and 5539) behind the elevators can assist you in accessing the collection. Ethnic and Gender Studies Library: 2 South Houses collections of books, magazines, pamphlets of special interest to ethnic and gender studies. Much of the library’s holdings in microform are kept here. Map and Imagery Lab: 1 North Atlases and gazetteers are shelved on the walls outside MIL and are available whenever the library is open. The lab has an extensive Imagery Collection, Digital Data, and specialized computer or photographic equipment for accessing and reproducing images. Microforms: 1 North, Government Information Center Items are shelved by type (fiche, film or print) and then by call number. To print, purchase a copy card from the dispenser near the Reference & Information Desk, 1 South. Reference & Information Desk: 1 South Get help with your research questions in the humanities and social sciences. Research consultations may be scheduled with subject specialists. Stop here for information on all library services. Sciences-Engineering Library (SEL): 2 Central Here you will find books, current and bound journals (G-GE, Q-V), and reference tools in the sciences and engineering. Ask at the SEL reference desk for research help in these areas. Serial and Newspaper Reading Area: 1 North Current journals in the humanities and social sciences are shelved here. Recent newspapers are alphabetical by title. Some newspapers are discarded after a few months; those we keep are on microfilm by call number in Microform Area, 1st floor, Government Information Center. Special Collections: 3 South Rare, valuable, unique, and historical materials are kept here. Major collections include the Wyles Collection (Civil War, Lincoln, western history), Printers Collection, California Ethnic and Multicultural Archives (CEMA), American Religions Collection, and University Archives. 24-hour Study Room: Just outside the front entrance. Food & drink are allowed here! Wireless: The library offers wireless access in a number of areas, including throughout most of the 1st floor, the South side of the 4th floor, the 24-hour study room, and the Arts Library. There are also tables in the 24hour study room and on the 4th floor (South) where you can physically plug your laptop into our network (open port). To use either this network or the wireless network, you must be a university employee or currently enrolled student. Word Processing Designated computers in the library may be used for word processing. Please ask at the Reference & Information desk for locations. In addition, computers with word processing software are available at UCen (3rd floor) and the Instructional Computing labs on campus.
