January 2016 President’s Report
Happy 2016! Have any of you set New Year’s Resolutions?
Have any of those already started off to a rocky start? I
will admit that I always set a few – several years ago I
renamed them as my annual goals which significantly
improved my success rating but even so, I am in the rocky
start category already this year. Whether goals or
resolutions, if you set them I wish you success in advancing
the ball on whatever aspect of your life you are aiming to
improve. When I took my realm as Chapter President, I
had to evaluate the Chapter goals and tweak them according to the direction I hoped to
take the Chapter. I will admit that my success at our Chapter goals has definitely had a
very rocky start. My tenure as Chapter President is already half over and we are just now
getting our first newsletter out. A large part of this failure was I didn’t heed a great piece
of advice I was given last summer to write these President’s columns before the Chapter
year started. Another large part of the problem is my failure to ask for help – I have hosted
one dinner party at my home in 15 years in St. Louis so why I thought I would be motivated
to organize a happy hour get together is a goal I will never figure out. However, despite the
rocky start, I would love to be able to say that I finished the Chapter year out strong – so
monthly newsletters are a large component of that but more important is Chapter
involvement. Our up-coming February provides several opportunities to meet one of our
other Chapter goals of getting together. Whether you join Adam Zuroweste, Eric Stauffer
and the rest of the MathCounts team on February 27th where we can always use more
graders down in the basement, celebrate the accomplishments of your fellow St. Louis
Region Engineers at our annual Awards Banquet on February 26th at the Engineer’s Club,
go to the Science Center on the 27th or 28th for the E-Week celebration or join in for an
inspirational speech at the E-Week luncheon hosted by the Engineer’s Club, I do hope you
will get out and join us this year.
Here is to all of our individual and collective success at our Resolutions or Goals – I have
come up with my February newsletter topic and hopefully you will come out for part of
E-Week! Separately, if you are a social organizer – I would love your help to get at least one
happy hour scheduled for all of us to meet up for drinks before the Chapter year is out.
