ARC Combined Committee 1 MEETING: Academic Resource Combined Northwest Technical College (NTC) and Bemidji State University (BSU) Committee Meeting DATE: September 27, 2012 TIME: 1500 ATTENDING: Tami Such, Tiffany Hommes, Teri Finn, Mary Fairbanks, Lynn Maltais, Jeanine McDermott CALLED TO ORDER BY: Tiffany Hommes BSU Academic Resources Committee (ARC) shall determine student resource needs, faculty and support staff resource needs, and program administration needs as well as resource and space utilization, i.e. space, equipment, library, software, laboratory, and clinical facilities. NTC ARC: review scope of resources…faculty, adjuncts, funding, differential tuition, clinical sites, library, technology. Topic Minutes Discussion Outcome(O)/Rationale(R) For 08.22.12 meeting. Tami motions to approve. Lynn second. Motion passed. Mary and Jeanine have taken the training. Jeanine has certificate and Mary is awaiting feedback on last two assignments. Both are eligible to be BSU Peer Review Team members to be available to review online courses at BSU. O: Recommend faculty use QM standards when developing online courses or when redesigning and updating. Mary will email the rubric and and D2L links to the tools for faculty. R: IIA; 5.4 O: Sandy Johanning will have work assistants to enter for NTC. BSU will enter at each meeting. R:IIA, 2 O: Update Request and Process diagram / form to match process. Mary will make available flow chart and request form in Academic Resource Shell. R: IIA, 5.4 Old Business Taskstream Update Resource requests/form and process Evaluation of clinical coordinator role NTC evaluation is empty. Will enter AD. BSU plan is there, Updated standards have been done – see CCNE /NLNAC document. Have one page document. See appendix A. Jeanine M has drafted flow diagram and steps for resource request process. Feedback from committee incorporated. Eliminate evaluation as part of the acquisition process. Discussion on who should evaluate the clinical coordinator. O: Recommend evaluation be carried out by supervisor. R: 5.3 Julie Adams needs names of NTC faculty to add them to AR Shell in D2L. O: Tami will send the NTC faculty names to add to the D2L New Business Access to D2L resource shell ARC Combined Committee Topic 2 Discussion Outcome(O)/Rationale(R) AR shell. R: IIA & 5.3 O: Reassign Tiffany, Lynn, and Tami to other specialist roles. R: Re-evaluate committee specialty area of clinical coordination With clinical coordinator role filled, Tiffany, Lynn and Tami are available for other specialist committee roles. Evaluation plan Work plan developed that addresses action on evaluation plan activities. Incorporates numerous items that are evaluated by course surveys (ie resource need questions). Need to assess questions to ensure that survey questions address resources accurately. O: Submit work plan to Dean ASAP. Discussion on evaluation tool to be used include a survey monkey to faculty to assess resource needs not identified in course evaluations R: IIA, 5.1 Ongoing collaboration with curriculum on evaluating resource needs via faculty meeting. Committee focus areas: Review specialist roles Library/Student Resources (II-B) – (Teri). Hard copy journals have been discontinued at NTC library. BSU Library allocation $3191 due February 1. Technology (Mary and Jeanine): QM at BSU is moving to the National Certification reviewer program. Discussion on Panopto and use/purchase of video cameras in classroom. Unbound Medicine – NTC needs to have their student get access. Mary will contact Jeanine to find out Streaming Video License – Marlene has list of available stored and streamed videos for BSU. Clinical Coordination and Resources - eliminated O: Add Tiffany to this role. She will send out email to have Faculty submit library requests. R: II-A, 5.4 O: Add Tami to this role. Jeanine is QM reviewer and Mary will do National training courses starting in October. R:II-A, 5.4 Mary will contact Jeanine to find out the status of access for NTC students Teri will get for NTC. O: Leslie Darmofal filling this role. R: To ensure faculty support and clinical relationships. ARC Combined Committee Topic Discussion Lab Coordination and resources (partner with lab coordinator) Faculty Resources: Upon review of standards, determined that NLNAC 2.7 is not in the scope of a committee and falls in the role of administration. Current Faculty Resource Requests 1. NTC Cribs at $500 each 2. Sim book for lab $319 and $49 for student guide. 3 Outcome(O)/Rationale(R) O: Lynn will join Jessica in this role. R: 5.3, 5.4 O: Tami will discuss with NTC Director for modification of NTC evaluation plan regarding 2.7. R: Achieve congruency between CCNE and NLNAC standards. O: Approved both cribs and sim book lab. R: II-A; 5.4 3. Case Study videos request from Mary and Carolyn rescinded. Academic Resources Committee shall determine student resource needs, faculty and support staff resource needs, program administration needs as well as resource and space utilization, i.e. space, equipment, library, software, laboratory, and clinical facilities. The Committee shall: A. Guide and assist both students and faculty in the development and use of educational resource materials which will support the objectives of the curriculum. B. Periodically review library and educational materials and make recommendations for changes, priorities, and improvements. C. Review resources policies and procedures and make recommendations. D. Review space and make recommendations. E. Review practicum needs and resources and make recommendations. F. Review and revise the resources sections of the Departmental Resource Manual on an annual basis. ARC Combined Committee 4 Appendix A CCNE-BSU CCNE Standard II: Program Quality: Institutional Commitment and Resources II-A. Fiscal and physical resources are sufficient to enable the program to fulfill its mission, goals, and expected outcomes. Adequacy of resources is reviewed periodically and resources are modified as needed. Measure: Department Budget, Grants: when applicable. Details: Review of needs in relation to budget, budget reviews with Dean of School of Nursing, Budget reports. Target: The dept. budget is adequate to conduct department functions/needs, and appropriate to university resources. Measure: Faculty participation in budget process, campus wide meetings, IFO contract, Department by-laws (ARC, Curriculum, and SAP). Target: Faculty participate in planning and allocation of budgetary resources via committee work at the dept. level and campus wide meetings for overall University budget planning. Measure: Offices, work area, instructional space, storage, meeting room Details: Recommendations by faculty, support staff, students, and community of interest. Details: Space is adequate for Dept. functioning. NLNAC-NTC ASSOCIATE NLNAC Standard 2: Faculty and Staff Qualified faculty and staff provide leadership and support necessary to attain the goals and outcomes of the nursing education unit. NLNAC Standard 5: Resources Fiscal, physical, and learning resources promote the achievement of the goals and outcomes of the nursing education unit. 5.1 Fiscal resources are sufficient to ensure the achievement of the nursing education unit outcomes and commensurate with the resources of the governing organization. 5.2 Physical resources (classrooms, laboratories, offices, etc.) are sufficient to ensure the achievement of the nursing education unit outcomes and meet the needs of faculty, staff, and students. 5.3 Learning resources and technology are selected by the faculty and are comprehensive, current, and Measure: Library resources, equipment, media accessible to faculty and students, ARC Combined Committee resources, technology resources, student scholarships. Details: Course evaluations, library resources requested following selection guidelines and budget, individual recommendations, department requests, communication with library personnel and technical personnel 5 including those engaged in alternative methods of delivery. For nursing education units engaged in distance education, the additional criterion is applicable: 5.4 Fiscal, physical, technological, and learning resources are sufficient to meet the needs of faculty and students and ensure that students achieve learning outcomes. 2.7 Faculty (full- and part-time) are oriented and mentored in their areas of responsibilities.
