The SALT Professionals Community– where SALT professionals
come together for the connections and information they need.
IPT
has more than 4,500 members across the
nation and in Canada. Its membership
represents virtually all business sectors and
sizes, from small firms to Fortune 100 companies. The Institute
provides members the network and educational resources needed
to keep themselves and their companies current regarding state and
local tax matters.
IPT is the only organization that certifies SALT professionals in
discipline-specific proficiencies. The widely-known CMI designation
is available for those specializing in sales and use, property or state
business income taxation, and the CCIP designation for those working
in the credits and incentives field. Professional conduct is promoted
through the IPT Code of Ethics, to which all members subscribe.

Educational resources include accredited national conferences,
symposia, seminars and schools, as well as regional/industry focused
programs and distance learning courses. The Institute has for many
years jointly sponsored programs with the American Bar Association
and numerous state departments of revenue. Local luncheon groups
supplement the national education programs. Members are also kept
up to date with monthly Tax Reports and keep colleagues and clients
informed of late-breaking developments through the SALT Wire,
LinkedIn and other social media.
The Institute has now committed itself to Sponsored Research
relating to critical state and local tax issues. It has done so with the
goal of producing objective surveys, analyses, reports and data sets
that business taxpayers, their representatives and lobbyists can use
in state legislative and congressional debate, and otherwise.
