COURSE PROFICIENCY OUTLINE SPANISH FOR HERITAGE SPEAKERS 1 and 2, Honors and CP – 1469/1470/2466/2468 B Year (even years) Purpose The purpose of this course is to develop within you, the student, the communication skills in Spanish you already may be using at home. You will review, practice and be responsible for more formal language use. You will be increasing your knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world by studying the facts, customs, famous people, and history of a wide-range of Spanish-speaking countries. Upon completion of this course you will have acquired enough Spanish to function at a minimum of an Intermediate Low level of proficiency. 1. Student Outcomes 7.1(Communication), 7.2 (Culture) You, the student, will demonstrate your ability to function both communicatively and culturally in Spanish at a minimum of an Intermediate Low Level of proficiency. You will do this through interpretive listening and reading, presentational and interpersonal writing, and presentational and interpersonal speaking. Through your study of the language, you will demonstrate an understanding of the personal, vocational, and economical benefits of being able to function in two languages. II. Content 7.1, 7.2 A. You will build upon your language skills through activities presented in a real-life context with an emphasis on open-ended, personalized opportunities to communicate. All skill areas will be developed with extensive emphasis placed on further development of presentational and interpersonal writing. Textbook: Nuestro Mundo, McDougal Littell, ©2002, Units 5-8 Class work will consist of a variety of paired-practice activities, listening practice, note-taking, contextual exercises, open-ended questions, taped exercises, and real-world tasks appropriate for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Visual aids such as flash cards, transparencies, posters, manipulatives, powerpoints, magazines and props will be used to help you understand new language. C. IV. Evaluation 7.1, 7.2 The final grade represents the teacher's professional judgment of your overall performance in all four skill areas and culture.
