Life Skills for the 21st Century Course Syllabus Mrs. Simonian E - m a i l : TXS9178@LAUSD.NET Class Website: http://www.erhs.la/classes/simonian/lifeskills Life Skills for the 21" Century is a required one‐semester course for all ninth graders at Eagle Rock High School. The major emphasis of this course is to allow students to learn skills, values, attitudes, and behaviors that are essential in school, personal life and for success in the workplace. Course Topics • High School Graduation Requirements • Relationships & Conflict Resolution • Study Skills • Money Skills • Time Management • Business Success Skills • Ethics & Social Responsibility • Resume Writing & Career Exploration • Identity, Values & Character Required Materials • 3‐ring binder with section for Life Skills; Paper and Pen. • Agenda with homework assignments for all classes filled each day Classroom Rules • No food, drink, gum, or candy is allowed in the classroom. • Students are expected to arrive to class and be seated on time. Three tardies will result in an unsatisfactory work habits mark. • Stay in your assigned seat and keep your desk area clean. • Act and speak in a respectful manner at all times IMPORTANT: Violation or lack of adherence to any of the above rules will result in disciplinary action, including counseling, detention, referral or suspension. Work Habits and Cooperation E= Excellent work habits and/or cooperation, student exceeds expectations and shows enthusiasm for learning. No tardies and/or unexcused absences. S= Satisfactory work habits and/or cooperation, student meets expectations for classroom conduct. No excessive tardies and/or unexcused absences. U= Unsatisfactory work habits and/or cooperation, student is below expectations for classroom conduct. Excessive tardies and/or unexcused absences. Grading Class Work 50% Projects 25% Quizzes 15% Class Participation 10% Late Work Policy Work completed in class include class notes, activity worksheets, individual projects and presentations which will all be assigned due dates. Late assignments will be deducted 10% each day that it is late, and will no longer be accepted after the cut‐off date for each marking period. Students will be able to check their progress report online from the class website to view their missing assignment. Work turned in late as a result of an absence will not be penalized as long as the absence is excused by the attendance office; however students are responsible for making up the assignments that they missed. Accommodations Please make arrangements with the teacher in advance if you require more time or other accommodations in class. Accommodations or modifications will be provided as needed.
