This past weekend, the Army West Point Crew team made history
with the Women’s Team Captain, CDT Catherine Browning (‘16),
earning a bronze medal in the 2016 C.R.A.S.H.-B World Indoor
Rowing Championships in Boston, MA
The team sent 13 cadets to compete in the grueling race, where
each athlete is required to row 2000 meters on an ergometer, an
indoor rowing machine, against elite competitors from across the
world
Shattering her old West Point 2K record by more than three seconds, CDT Browning finished with a time of 6:58.6 in the Open Women’s Division, the premiere event of the
day
 The unprecedented effort put her in 3rd place out of 155 competitors, while earning her the top spot in the collegiate category
(1st of 122)
 CDT Chris Wagner (‘18) was the top Army rower in the Open
Men’s Division, pulling a personal record of 6:14.7 (just two seconds off the Army record), to earn him a finish of 29th out of

Ski Patrol



On 20 Feb., the USMA Ski Patrol club conducted training at the Butternut Ski Area in Massachusetts
Although it was a warm day, the cadets enjoyed the
granular snow and spring-like skiing conditions
Candidates were able to practice ski and board skills,
though they did not have the opportunity to conduct
sled training due to the high traffic on the mountain

SUPPORT CLUBS
On 27 Feb., the USMA Pipes and Drums club travelled to Albany, NY, to compete in the EUSPBA Quartet Competition
In the solo competition, the three cadets that played placed
second, third, and fourth in their grade
The effort and focus put into the solos will pay dividends for
the band, since solos are the best way to work on technique
In the quartet competition, the cadets placed fourth
The judges’ comments and critique will be helpful in preparation for the upcoming Military Tattoo, and later for the ArmyNavy competition next year
Furthermore, the quartet was composed of mostly junior
playing pipers in order to prepare them for more prominent
roles and performances in the upcoming year
Aside from competing, the group met and re-introduced themselves to several members of the piping community in upstate New York
Glee Club
The West Point Glee Club travelled to Wilmington, DE, on 2628 Feb. to perform at various venues in the community
 The club first performed for 300 students at Alexis I. DuPont
High School on Friday afternoon, including a presentation by
three cadets with details about the academic, military, and physical pillars at West Point
 The cadets also enjoyed talking with many students about West
Point and career opportunities after the concert
 Later that day, some of the cadets visited a historical site of
DuPont gunpowder and machinery production from the early
1800s
On Saturday, the West Point Glee Club performed in the Loudis Recital Hall on the University of Delaware
campus; they were joined for the last two songs by the University of Delaware Concert Choir
One of the crowd favorites was when the Club CIC invited all USMA grads to the stage to proudly sing the
West Point Alma Mater

On 27 April, the Army West Point Parachute team went to Poughkeepsie, NY, to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity
This was a great opportunity for the whole team not only to help
the community, but also to have an incredible team bonding experience
While at the site, the team organized their new warehouse, which
will server as a “store” to furnish the houses that they build in
there are in the future
At another location, the team was divided into two groups
One group was tasked with painting one of the finished houses,
while the other group put up a fence
Overall, the team had a great experience, and are happy to have
volunteered their time to a cause that will positively impact some
one else

On 26 Feb., forty cadets from the USMA Investment Forum travelled to New York City, to see USMA vets at
JP Morgan, hear leadership lessons from their Vet’s Network Leader (COL (Ret.) Ross Brown, ‘87), and enjoyed learning from investment professionals
The UBS leadership provided a phenomenal lunch experience that included a hypothetical 2nd/3rd order impact of ride-sharing on tire markets
Cadets also visited a Hedge-Fund ran by two USMA grads, as well as MSD Capital where they met several vets
that invest in Michael Dell’s personal assets

Big Brothers Big Sisters





After lunch, the group went to Arvin Gym to participate in an intense afternoon of dodgeball, basketball,
and other physical activities
After everyone recovered from the intense competition, the Littles were given a tour of the Academy via a
scavenger hunt
Cadets escorted their Littles throughout the campus by
following clues that lead them to key landmarks where
they were educated on its significance
The day wrapped up with an award ceremony where
each Little was awarded a branch insignia by their Big;
the cadets chose a specific branch insignia based on
their Little’s personality and characteristics
On 27 Feb., the USMA Big Brothers Big Sisters club welcomed 13 “Littles” from the
Highland Falls community to West Point for
a fun day of mentorship with their Cadets,
also known as “Bigs”
The group enjoyed a lunch at the Cadet
Mess Hall where they shared good food,
great stories, and even learned to “kill the
milk”

sacred and patriotic songs for the congregation and community at the Messiah United Methodist Church in Shippensburg,
PA
 The following morning, the cadets sang for the Sunday service
at the Messiah United Methodist Church, where they were
welcomed by the pastor and praised for their dedication to
the ideal of service to country
Worshipers were treated to sacred and traditional hymns including the Battle Hymn of the Republic
After the service, the families who hosted the cadets in their homes joined them for a lunch at the fellowship hall
of the church
The congregations and community were delighted to become better acquainted with the members of the Cadet
