Dear Student and Parent(s)/Guardian(s): Thank you so much for expressing interest in the Eastfield College Dual Credit and Concurrent Enrollment Program. The purpose and one of the many benefits of Dual Credit is to have the opportunity to take a college-level course at your high school and receive college credit while receiving high school credit too. This opportunity includes the following: Eligible courses are tuition waived. Provides a head start on postsecondary core requirements. Lowers cost of college (DCCCD waives tuition for Dual Credit). Extends the variety of classes available to high school students. Allows access to college facilities/activities — such as, college library, fine arts performances, career development services, computer labs and learning skills/tutoring services. Provides greater opportunity for coordinated, seamless education. Serves as a “controlled” introduction to college life. Allows for an easier transition to college. Builds student confidence and self-esteem. An online application has already been competed, and the following documents should have already been signed: DCCCD Consent to Emergency Treatment Form o Complete the Consent to Emergency Treatment Form and sign by a parent if under 18. Incomplete forms will not be processed. o Students 18 and older are not required to fill out the Consent to Emergency Treatment Form. Parent/Guardian FERPA Release and Registration by Proxy Form for Dual Credit o This form must be completed to allow parent(s) or legal guardian(s) access to student educational records, to register a student or inquire about a student’s grade(s). In the event that a parent or guardian comes to Eastfield College to discuss the student’s records, a picture ID is required for the parent(s) or legal guardian(s). If not, please return these documents to your high school counselor as soon as possible. The high school counselor has provided us with the required shot records and an official transcript. The next step in the dual credit process is to determine course eligibility. Please know that this may require testing based on college readiness standards determined by current standardized test scores. If testing is required, there is also a mandatory pre-assessment activity that must be completed prior to taking the assessment. This attached packet, provides the following information: 1. Dual Credit Procedures to Drop or Withdraw from Course (s) To drop or withdraw from a college course, the student must follow the prescribed procedure. It is the responsibility of the student to drop or withdraw. Failure to do so will result in the student receiving a performance grade, usually a grade of "F". The student can drop or withdraw from classes in two ways: 1. Go Online to obtain a drop form: http://www.efc.dcccd.edu/as/DualCredit/Drop%20Request%20Rev%202013.pdf 2. In person: Visit the Dual Credit Office (C125) and complete a drop/withdrawal form. 3. Fax a drop form to (972)-860-8389: Please include name of school in the cover letter. There must be at least one reason given for each class of why the student is dropping. Forms that are faxed must be date-stamped on a date prior to or on the last day to drop the class. 4. Please note: It is the instructor’s responsibility to notify the Dual Credit Office of any changes, if the course is taught on the high school campus. A drop/withdrawal request by any means must be received in the Dual Credit Office by the official drop/withdrawal deadline as indicated on the Academic Calendar or by the current class schedule. No drops or withdrawal requests are accepted by telephone or email. Late Withdrawal from College Course(s) taught on the High School Campus To withdraw late from a college course, the student must follow the prescribed procedure. It is the responsibility of the student to drop or withdraw. Failure to do so will result in the student receiving a performance grade, usually a grade of "F". A late withdrawal form is only submitted if the last day to drop deadline has passed. The Drop deadline is approximately the 12th week of class but may vary due to semester length. The instructor can obtain a late withdrawal form from the Dual Credit Office by fax, email or in person. The form must be completed and signed by the student and the instructor in order to be submitted to the Dean. Requests for late withdrawal will not be considered after the last day of the following long semester in which the grade was assigned. Please note: It is the instructor’s responsibility to notify the Dual Credit Office of any changes, if the course is taught on the high school campus. Financial Aid Implications of Dual Credit Students are not eligible for state or federal financial aid while enrolled in high school. However, because they are recorded on the college transcript, grades earned for dual credit courses can impact a student's future financial aid. Academic Standing Eligibility for continued participation in the Dual Credit program requires satisfactory academic performance at the high school; earned grades of A, B or C in all college courses; and parental and school approval for each subsequent semester of enrollment. A student who earns grades of W, D or F may not be eligible for future dual credit courses or may have restrictions. The Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) must be completed before a student can test. Please refer to the link below about this new requirement and share with your students. They will need to have their eConnect account set-up to be able to complete the second part of this required activity: http://www.eastfieldcollege.edu/ari/testing.asp
