Indiana State Student-Athlete Quotes From NCAA Mideast Regional
Sophomore Lauren Martin – Triple Jump
On Saturday’s triple jump competition …
“I was a lot more nervous than I expected headed to the track today. I knew I was going to be up against
some of the best jumpers in the country, but at the same time I was confident that I could compete well
with them. Once I got on the runway, I was very relaxed and that helped me post a new personal best jump
and get a new school record.”
On advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship …
“I’m super excited about getting the chance to compete at the NCAA Championships. When I set a new
PR earlier this season, I was already on cloud nine. Then I won the MVC title in the event which added to
the excitement and then took fourth here. It’s been a great season and I still don’t think it has set in that I
am heading to the NCAA meet yet.”
Sophomore Erica Moore – 400 Meter Hurdles
On Saturday’s triple jump competition …
“I was more relaxed today headed into the finals after my performance from yesterday. I knew that I was
coming in with a good lane assignment and was very excited to be running against some top-notch
competitors. That made me become extremely focused and made me faster on the track.”
On advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship …
“Heading into the NCAA meet, I kind of know what to expect after going to the NCAA indoor meet. I
couldn’t have asked for a better weekend and now I have to turn my attention to focusing on the NCAA
meet. I’ll use the next couple weeks to train hard and focus and I think I will head into the meet ready to
compete with the best in the country.”
Senior Steve Daniel – Triple Jump
On Saturday’s triple jump competition …
“I felt pretty good out there today. The warm weather really helped me get loose and was something we
haven’t been used to all season. My first effort was big and that set the tone for the rest of the event. I
pulled up lame in the finals and had to pull out of my last few jumps, but my first mark was good enough to
finish fourth.”
On advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship …
“Well first thing I have to do is get my leg healthy. It’s nothing serious, but I will rehab it and get it
healthy before the NCAA meet. Once the leg is healthy, I’ll focus on my technique and get some jump in
during practice and go try to place at nationals and earn All-American honors.”
