YOUR GUIDE TO A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION This checklist is designed to help you plan, monitor your progress, and stay on track! 0-15 credits Meet with an MDC Advisor to choose courses and make sure you are on track with any developmental course needs. Use your degree audit to monitor your progress and take at least 12 credits per semester to graduate in a timely manner! (The Dual Degree Program gives you a 3-year timeline to complete the A.A. degree.) Gather information about FIU majors, common prerequisites, GPA requirements, and limited access programs.* Develop a preliminary (term by term) academic plan based on your areas of interest. 15-30 credits Choose an appropriate major. Need help? Speak with an MDC Advisor to attend a scheduled Career Workshop. Revisit your academic plan to make sure you include the common prerequisites for your chosen major. Meet with the Dual Degree Bridge Advisor to review your academic plan. 30-45 credits Meet with the Dual Degree Bridge Advisor to discuss progress. Stay on track by completing common prerequisites and meeting GPA requirements. Fill out the Dual Degree update application (my.fiu.edu).** Submit to FIU: (1) MDC transcripts at the start of your final semester (MyMDC or Registrar’s office), (2) Scores for accelerated credits directly from College Board (AP, CLEP), (3) Transcripts from any other institution (dual enrollment). 45-60 credits Meet with Dual Degree Bridge Advisor for any final questions. Apply for graduation from MDC. Transition to FIU! Pay enrollment deposit, sign up for orientation, and submit immunization records. Send your final MDC transcript to FIU after your A.A. degree is awarded. *See reverse side of brochure for more information. ** First time logging in to my.fiu.edu? An advisor from FIU who helps Dual Degree students transition successfully. The Bridge Advisor helps identify appropriate FIU majors, common prerequisites, GPA requirements, and more. You can visit the Bridge Advisor at MDC-Kendall or FIU. Appropriate Major. A major that combines a student’s interest with his/her skills and abilities. Selecting an appropriate major early helps students plan and graduate with the A.A. and Bachelor’s degree in a timely manner! Common Prerequisite. A course required by a specific major that is completed prior to transferring so that students may then take advanced courses. FACTS.org. An online advising tool that helps Florida students plan. Learn about admission requirements, common prerequisites, and limited access programs. Limited Access Program. A program with selective admission requirements (competitive GPA, portfolio or audition, completion of specific courses prior to entry.)
