Class Schedule: MTWRF 9:00-9:50AM, F 10:00-10:50AM in 1064 Lincoln Hall
Midterms: There will be three one-hour exams given during lecture on the Fridays below.
As these dates are set, you should plan your schedules around these dates. No conflict exams
should be necessary since the exams are during our normal lecture time and you are expected
to be able to attend lecture.
• Exam 1 : 10:00AM-10:50AM Friday, June 21, 2013
• Exam 2 : 10:00AM-10:50AM Friday, July 12, 2013
• Exam 3 : 10:00AM-10:50AM Friday, July 26, 2013
Final Exam: The final exam will be comprehensive and will be on 1:00 pm - 3:00
pm, Friday, August 2, 2013. Exact details will be given in class toward the end of the
semester. Do not plan on leaving town before the exam. No conflicts will be given due to
travel plans.
Homework: We will be using the Webassign system for online homework.
Go to https://www.webassign.net/uiuc/login.html and register the class. The required information is your NetID and your Active Directory(AD)password. If you fail
to do so, then your grades will not be counted. If you do not have an access code, you may
take advantage of a two-week trial period. If you have any questions or troubles about the registration, go to webassign student support http://www.webassign.net/user support/student/
and if you still have trouble, email me to vellis1@illinois.edu. The first homework is already
posted.
Discussion sections: There will be approximately three discussion sections per week. In
the discussion sections, you will work in small groups on worksheets, which will be collected
at the end of the section and graded. It is essential to work well with your groupmates: I will
grade one worksheet chosen at random from each group, and every member of the group will
receive that grade. You must arrive at the small section on time in order for your worksheet
score to be counted.
Absences: There will be no make up homeworks or missing worksheets. To account for
unavoidable absences, I will drop 2 of your lowest homework grades and 2 of your lowest
worksheet scores when calculating your final grade.
Calculators: While graphing calculators are not required, they will be useful for quick
calculations and for obtaining sketches of functions. No calculator will be allowed on any
exams, so do not become too dependent on them.
Academic Integrity Violations: The student’s academic integrity code can be found in
the Student Code -Article 1 Part 4. In accordance with these policies, the penalty that
an instructor is permitted to impose for cheating of any kind on any graded material or
calculator policy violation in this class is anything up to immediate failure of the course and
a letter placed in the student’s permanent school file. Such actions can have a significant
impact on your career well beyond your undergraduate training. Integrity is something you
should protect.

We will not curve the final averages down. For example, if your final average is 90% then
your final grade will be some sort of A. It is possible that we will curve the final average up.
In other words, if your final average is 88% then it is possible, but not guaranteed, that your
final grade will be some sort of A. Your work on the homework and worksheets is crucial
to your success in the course. Material covered on the exams will strongly reflect material
which has been covered in homework and the worksheets.
