The Bronx High School of Science, Physical Science Department Valerie Reidy, Principal Annelisse Falzone, A.P. Regents Physics (SP1/2C) Review 2010 Presentation Assignment Mr. B. Cornish, Instructor We have spent the last year learning about how the physical world around us operates. We have investigated some of the theorems, laws and models we apply to help us understand it. The basic requirements of the review presentation (which you will be graded upon) are as follows: 1) Working in pairs you will select one physics topic from those units we have covered. 2) Your presentation will be to the whole class and will involve the both of you presenting. 3) You may use the blackboard and the PC during your presentation. If you choose to use PowerPoint for your presentation, use a maximum of 5 slides. 4) Your presentation will cover the major concepts of the topic and the primary equations that apply in that area. a. You will discuss the concepts briefly and give definitions where required. b. Point out the equations and reference information on the reference table. c. Explain the symbols used in any equations and what units the variables are measured in. 5) You will choose two problems in your topic area from a past 2008/2009 Regents Physics exam (http://www.nysedregents.org/Physics/ ). These two problems must involve a calculation of some sort, not simply a multiple choice answer. a. You will present one of them and explain to the class how to solve the problem. b. The other one you will print and hand out as homework – the others will do the problem and hand it back to you the following day. c. You will mark and grade these problems and enter the grades into a spreadsheet (details below). 6) Your whole presentation must take no more than 10-13 minutes total. A timer will be used to tell you when your time is up. 7) Finally, as a listener to the other presentations, you must pay respectful attention and complete the example problem the other groups hand to you – remember, you will receive a grade for this piece, on each presentation. Presentations will take place in class from JUNE 1st to JUNE 11th. Spreadsheet information You have been granted access to a Google Docs spreadsheet via your Bronx Science email account – check your Bronx Science email for log in information. This sheet lists all the topics and everyone’s name. You will enter the grade for each student for your example problem. Keep in mind that we have limited class time in the final two weeks – if you are not ready to present, then you will not be able to go on a different day and your grade will reflect this. If you have any questions about this project, do not hesitate to make an appointment to see me during any one of the tutoring periods (2, 5, 7, 9 or after school, Room 231D or Room 007). OR send me an email at cornish@bxscience.edu. GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY! The Bronx High School of Science, Physical Science Department Valerie Reidy, Principal Annelisse Falzone, A.P.
