AGENCY INTRODUCTION: MEND -Meet Each Need with Dignity is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that provides a variety of services to low-income families living in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. We served over 21,000 unduplicated individuals in 2013 with emergency food, clothing, ESL classes/computer classes, health services and other programs each month. As a volunteer-powered organization, MEND operates with more than 5,200 volunteers annually, and a staff of thirty two employees. JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Dental Clinic Assistant Manager REPORTS TO: Dental Clinic Manager PROGRAM: Dental Clinic JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Dental Clinic Manager, assists in all clinical aspects of patient care and treatment and performs RDA duties in a clinical setting. Works with the Dental Clinic Manager and participating Dentists, Hygienists and Dental Assistants to ensure patients are properly diagnosed. Assists Clinic Manager in keeping clinic up to code according to OSHA standards. Attends monthly staff meetings and other staff events. The position is 35 hours/week. Hours are flexible and vary according to the needs of the program, including some evenings and weekends. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage, supervise, recruit and schedule Dental Assistant volunteers, ensuring that volunteers follow clinic policy and procedures. Review and evaluate performance of assigned volunteers, providing coaching where needed and conducting constructive performance reviews. Recruit, direct, and oversee the work of support volunteers. Provide training for use of Dentrix and ETO. Responsible for patient record-keeping activities including: maintenance of dental records in Dentrix and Efforts to Outcomes Database, referral follow-up, clinic appointment setting, daily chart review to ensure proper procedures are scheduled and other Dental Clinic Administrative duties. Responsible for the maintenance and log of x-ray processors, autoclaves, and other equipment. Restock and order supplies, clean and maintain equipment as needed. Perform RDA duties within clinic setting; take x-rays, fabricate temporary crowns. Pour diagnostic models and perform minor laboratory procedures. Work with clinic staff to clean, sanitize and maintain dental operatories. Manage the Dental Clinic infection control plan to meet OSHA standards. Work with Dental Clinic Manager to complete annual inventory Participate in coordination of annual program events including Give Kids a Smile and Head to Toes. Participate in program planning, goal-setting and implementation. Participate in outreach activities by attending dental association/society meetings and collaborating partner meetings/events. Other essential duties may be assigned with the general scope of the position. QUALIFICATIONS: Desired candidate must be bilingual in English/Spanish, will have knowledge of dental terminology and treatments, chair side dental assisting, sterilization and infection control procedures, emergency procedures including CPR, general office methods and practice management software desirable. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients, apply patient management and time management skills, project a professional image, work in fast paced environment and maintain professional composure and demeanor, manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. Experience: 1. Minimum of one year RDA experience in a dental office or dental school. Experience to include chair side assisting and supervisory experience. Education/Licenses: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. RDA License. 3. Current CPR certification. Working Conditions: 1. Position requires standing during the majority of working hours. 2. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated.
