Rauschenberg: Three undisputed giants of America culture. Experience their iconoclastic

Inside Out, Photography After Form
Curated by Simon Baker and Tanya Barson
Inside Out, Photography After Form: Selections from the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection is
co-curated by Simon Baker and Tanya Barson. This exhibition, drawn from the photographic
holdings of the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection, will explore the creative relationship between
the camera lens and the construction, production and deconstruction of form; tracing the
many and various ways in which form can and has been both produced and undone through
the agency of the camera lens. Rather than seeking to trace a lineage or make a chronological
survey, the exhibition will bring together contrasting images and bodies of work that look at
the question of space and form from within and without, overturning preconceptions about the
critical potential of the photographic medium. Photography’s experimental engagement with the
formal possibilities of line, light and shadow in the real world will be challenged and re-assessed
through the work of post-war conceptual and contemporary artists, who have engaged critically
with modernism and its aftermath.

Florida Cattle Ranching: Five Centuries of Tradition
This exhibition tells the story of one of Florida’s oldest and most important cultural activities.
Cattle ranching in North America began when Spanish explorers introduced horses and
cattle in the 16th century, and flourished in the hands of the Seminoles, Crackers, and other
Floridians. The exhibition traces cattle ranching from its early beginnings in Colonial Florida
through present-day cattle ranching using artifacts, archival photos, artwork by cowboy artists,
cowboy poetry, audio and video components, and images by guest photographers Jon Kral, Bob
Montanaro, Jimmy Peters, and Carlton Ward, Jr.

Susan Rothenberg: Moving in Place
Susan Rothenberg’s Moving in Place consists of a select group of 25 paintings ranging from the
mid-1970s to the present. Even as Rothenberg’s images have changed radically over the course
of her career, certain tendencies have remained constant, reflecting how the artist sees and
reconstructs the world through a series of shifting pictorial structures that create a spinning or
torquing spatial scenario. The exhibition explores the evolution of this “frozen motion,” as the
artist has referred to it, from the early horse paintings such as Cabin Fever (1976), which depicts
the simple outline of a horse jumping into action; to her spinning and turning figures of the 1980s
and early 1990s, such as Folded Buddha (1987–88) and Pin Wheel (1988); to the action scenes that
emerged shortly after she moved to a ranch in Galisteo, New Mexico, such as Dogs Killing Rabbit
(1991–92) and Accident #2 (1993–94); to her most recent series of disembodied hands and arms
swinging around the space of the paintings like dismembered marionettes.
Robert Rauschenberg Focus Gallery: Between Here and There
BETWEEN HERE AND THERE focuses on the cultures of the Atlantic Rim—the Americas, Europe
and Africa—from which the vast majority of Miami residents hail. Included within this broader
framework will be the work of a number of artists residing in South Florida, many of whom are
paradigms of this intercultural dialogue. BETWEEN HERE AND THERE opened a remarkable
installation by Tomás Saraceno, the Argentine representative to this year’s Venice Biennale.
Galaxies Forming Along Filaments, Like Droplets Along the Strands of a Spider’s Web, 2008, is
the prototype for Saraceno’s Venice installation; it was purchased last year by MAM’s Collectors
Council and is being displayed at Miami Art Museum for the first time. The installation will be the
initial offering in the Anchor Gallery, a space that will feature regularly changing presentations of
large-scale works from the collection.

Untitled 2010: Performance and Installation
Untitled 2010 will highlight the work of sixteen college and high school New World School of
the Arts students during the exciting Art Basel Festival. The show, comprised of performance
and installations, brings a plethora of unexpected surprises that run the gamut from situational
living arrangements to bigger than life sculptures. Curated by Dean Cuesta and Fredric Snitzer,
NWSA faculty and gallerist, the exhibition offers the audience a treat through its diverse and
dynamically unexpected works. The Run Away, by HS senior Audrey Gair, is a performance
work featuring the artist living and functioning in her own world within the gallery and yet totally
open to spectators. Moises Sanabria, a sophomore in the NWSA college program, offers The
Bohemians, an installation consisting of wood structures that represent a group of musicians.
The dozen structures, with radios symbolizing their heads, will be playing Queen’s epic 1970’s
song Bohemian Rhapsody. Renata Rojo’s untitled work will be suspended from the ten-foot
ceiling of the gallery. It features massive grape-like sculptures consisting of found and organic
materials. The hanging will create a drooping effect, which might suggests a sexual aspect of the
piece. However, the work it is not to meant to convey an erotic message but rather, it is to depict
a moment in time. Renata Rojo is a junior in the college division.
The show is free and open to the public.
