And since 1995 Stanley Mining Services has been contributing to the mine’s growth and success. Stanley Mining had been invited by Ashanti Exploration to come to Tanzania from West Africa to undertake exploration drilling in the Geita area. After setting up an office in Geita Town, Stanley Mining Services was fully established by 1996. “We work on both grade control and exploration drilling,”says William Atteridge, senior occupational health, safety and environmental coordinator for Stanley Mining in Australia and Africa. “About a third of our work is grade control and the remaining It’s two thirds is exploration,”he notes. Meeting the Highest Standards As one of the largest contractors on site, Stanley Mining has been involved in all of the clients’ NOSA, ISO 14001 audits and various inter-company audits. In 2001 the site became the first mine in East Africa to be audited by NOSA (National Occupational Safety Association), and was one of the first ever to be graded as a 4 Star Platinum Mine for the combined Health, Safety and Environmental Integrated NOSA Audit.
