Open to junior level applicants for the fall term only. The major in Communication Studies is an
interdisciplinary program leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. It seeks to provide students with a
comprehensive knowledge of the nature of human communication, the symbol systems by which it
functions, the environments in which it occurs, its media, and its effects. Employing critical and empirical
approaches, the major draws its resources from the social sciences, humanities, and fine arts.
Concentrations within this major include: Interpersonal Communication; and, Mass Communication.
Students successfully completing the coursework will earn an ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN LIBERAL ARTS in
ARTS and HUMANITIES from MSJC and be ready to transfer to UCLA in the Communication Studies Major.

1. Application must be submitted between November 1st to November 30th, one year prior to transfer.
2. All students should meet with a counselor at least once a semester to update their plan and review
admission requirements to the university of their choice.
