Gym Shorts 2nd Grading Period By: Mrs. O. Arthur Physical Education Teacher Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade Physical Education The units and skills practiced this grading period were: Ball skills- bounce, throw, catch, kick, and roll followed by a related activity. Ball games were played by Kindergarten and 1st grade while games from other countries- Sweden, Italy, England, Ghana, Malawi, and Nigeria were played by 2nd grade. The gymnastics unit included mat work- animal friends for kindergarten; animal stunts and tumbling for 1st grade and small apparatus-chairs, benches, beam, and mats for 2nd grade. A certificate is given to all students after each unit. 3rd and 4th Grade Physical Education The units and skills introduced this grading period were: Ball games- speedball and bombardment; Basketball- dribble, bounce pass, chest pass, two hand set-shot and one hand set-shot; Hoop Shoot Contest and Gymnastics- individual stunts, two people stunts, tumbling, and pyramids. 5th and 6th Grade Physical Education The units and skills introduced this grading period were- Ball games- speedball and bombardment; Basketball- dribble, bounce pass, chest pass, two hand set-shot and one hand set-shot, Hoop Shoot Contest and Obstacle Course. Skills are practiced and tournaments played. Teams chosen for Basketball were: 5th grade- LA Lakers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, New Orleans Hornets, Phoenix Suns, and Orlando Magic; 6th grade- Miami Heat, LA Lakers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic, San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets. Hoop Shoot Contest Students in grades 3 through 6 participated in the Tenth Street School annual Hoop Shoot Contest. All participants received a certificate. The winners represented 10th Street Elementary School at the Oakmont Elks Hoop Shoot, in which David Collins and Gillian Gaynor placed 2nd; Tyler Stoner, Adam Obrin, and Maddy Deem placed 3rd; and Sammy Amodeo placed 4th. 3rd grade: Maddy Deem Sammy Amodeo th 4 grade: Olivia Rossi Adam Obrin th 5 grade: Gillian Gaynor David Collins th 6 grade: Sydney McDonough Tyler Stoner Obstacle Course The 5th and 6th grade students participated in a timed obstacle course. The route included: zigzagging orange cones, jumping rope, basketball foul shot, and a two hoop jump. Penalties were given for any errors. Certificates were awarded to the winners. The best times were: 5th grade: Francesca Lio 29.31 sec. Nicolas Catanzaro 25.13 sec. th 6 grade: Izzy Komaniak 24.50 sec.
