Getting organised
Mastering MyLO
NOW: Semester 1 units
Tip 1: Request a Sandpit
The MyLO team recommends that
you use a ‘Sandpit’ to practise using
MyLO before setting up your unit for
teaching.
By now you should have started planning your MyLO unit prior to Semester 1
commencing. During this stage, you will be making important decisions about the way
you will build your MyLO unit and you can also request your new MyLO unit be
created.
Semester 1 units: Are you teaching in Semester 1?
If you haven’t already started, start planning your Semester 1 MyLO units now.
NEXT: Summer School Semester 3 units
If you’re teaching in Semester 3, now is a great time to welcome your students to your
MyLO unit and explain to them the role that MyLO will play in their learning. You can do
this through the News tool.

experiment with, without the risk of
breaking anything!
You can request a Sandpit by going to
MyLO Manager and logging in using
your UTAS username and password.

Workshop latest: Faculty of Health Science
On 12th December 2012 Hobart City
and Domain-based staff from the
Faculty of Health Science participated
in drop-in session covering all aspects
of MyLO including Turnitin,
GradeMark, ePortfolio, web
conferencing, groups, news and more.
The day was well attended with more
than 25 staff taking advantage of the
opportunity to talk to Educational
Developers about how best to structure the online components of their units.
The workshops included sessions on assessment tools and communication tools, and a
flexible approach meant that the workshops were tailored to staff needs and areas of
interest. Educational Developers provided one-on-one support, hands-on assistance
and advice - popular for staff trying to resolve issues or get started in new MyLO.

Unplanned outage over holiday break
Browser recommendation
Over the holiday break an issue arose whereby all Semester 5 students were un-enrolled
from their units. This issue was not caused by MyLO but by an error within the Student
Management system data-feed that MyLO receives.
The University of Tasmania
recommends using the latest
version of any the following
browsers for the new MyLO:
Both staff and students could still login to MyLO - however students could no longer see
their units; and also as a result of their unenrolled status, all the students work within
the units became unavailable to access.
A fix was applied that re-enrolled all students into their units - and as they were reenrolled their work also reappeared.
This issue resulted in an outage for the affected students from the 26th to the 29th of
December. If any assessment items were due within this time period please make
allowances for this as students would not have been able to submit, view or interact
with their unit content during this time.
If you have any further questions about this issue or need assistance with updating any
assessment items please contact MyLO.Support@utas.edu.au
