Objectives
(1)
Develop in students the 21CC of global awareness and
cross-cultural skills that would enable them to develop
cultural sensitivities;
(2)
In alignment with the school's SAP programme, to
expose students to the Chinese culture and language
learning in different parts of Asia and sensitize them to
the place of Singapore in the world; and
(3)
Deepen students’ commitment and rootedness to
Singapore

Pre-trip preparation by school
 Risk assessment and recce trips by teachers are
carried out before the actual trip to ensure that the
learning journey is safe for pupils.
 Only MOE approved travel agency is engaged.
 Pre-trip briefing(s) for pupils and parents. Parents
are given a 24-hour emergency number to call.
They can also reach their children through their
mobile phones(usually after 9pm except for
emergency).

Pre-trip preparation by school
 Contact Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Travellers’ Health
and Vaccination Clinic (THVC at
www.ttsh.com.sg/travellershealth/) at least 6 weeks
to determine any vaccination needs or any health
advisory information.
 Submit travel information to Ministry of Foreign
Affairs
 Take first-aid boxes, collate addresses and contact
information of nearby hospitals, clinics and the local
Singapore Commission.

Deliverables by pupils
 Pupils are expected to apply their learning
in meaningful ways. This could include:
sharing at assemblies or exhibition(s)
reflections in journal or via discussion
forums
application of learning through project
work

A letter of confirmation of the result of pupils’ application for
overseas educational trip will be issued.
Allocation and selection of pupils for all overseas educational trips.
Balloting may take place if a destination is oversubscribed. Those
who are balloted out would be considered for their next choice.
Separate briefings and more information on the respective
overseas educational trips will be given to the relevant parents
accordingly on a later date once the itineraries are confirmed.

Q and A
Q: Which airline will the pupils take for their overseas educational trips?
A: Singapore Airlines/Silk Air.
Q: Are all trips direct flights and does any trip require domestic flight
transfer?
A: All trips are direct flights. No domestic flight transfer is required.
Q: Are there any domestic travels by trains?
A: Only bus will be used as main mode of transport within the visiting
country.
Q: How is the selection of students for each country done? What
happens if a certain country is oversubscribed?
A: Please refer to slide no. 7
Q: After the trip, are the girls tasked to produce homework/project from the
trip itself?
A: Please refer to slide no. 6.
Q: Are there any water activities involved?
A: There will be no water activities.

Q: What is the accommodation arrangement for pupils like?
A: Pupils will either have twin or triple sharing in the hotel (at least 4 Star) for
their accommodation arrangement.
Q: What is the teacher-pupil ratio for each country?
A: The teacher-pupil ratio is 1 teacher to a maximum of 10 pupils (as
recommended by MOE) for all overseas trips. In addition, there will be a
teacher overall in-charge accompany the group. Thus, 5 teachers will be
accompanying a group of 40 pupils.
Q: Can parents accompany the girls to the above educational trips? Are
parents volunteers required for the above educational trips?
A: No. It is an opportunity for pupils to be independent and exercise their life
skills. Accompanying teachers are experienced in bringing pupils for the
trips.
Q: What is a rough itinerary be like?
A: At least 2 to 3 days of school immersion experience. Pupils will also be
visiting historical and cultural places of interests.

Q: For Suzhou, this is the only one that indicates "Use of ICT in IPW". Can you
kindly elaborate further? Is this trip going to help them produce the
Integrated Project Work among the girls?
A: All educational trips are linked to IPW which requires the pupils to learn
about the history, people, culture and places of interests of Singapore and
the achievement and legacies of China. However, the school in Suzhou is
more ready to have ICT collaboration this year as compared to the other
schools. Eventually, all schools in the overseas educational trips will engage
in ICT collaboration.
Q: What is covered in the estimated cost?
A: The estimated cost of the trip is all-inclusive(all meals, transport, admission
fees, tips for guides and driver, airport tax).
Q: How much is advisable for pupils to bring for their trip?
A: If pupils would like to bring some money, it is advisable that they only bring (S)$200
(not compulsory) for their own personal expenses.
