From beginners to advanced students, this class will explore methods used to produce images of dazzling beauty. Acrylics now compete with oils in terms of the range of colors and transparent glazing colors. The course will teach a specific foolproof method and easy to learn techniques. Use of color charts, brushes and other materials will be discussed in addition to instructor demonstrations. Prints to design your own painting for a 16x20 art panel will be provided. These prints are based on scans from still life paintings, botanicals, landscapes, and 17th century nature subject matter. Mixed Media for Adults with Artist Carla Valentino Tuesday 7pm - 9pm April 7 – June 9 Instructor Carla Valentino will introduce and then explore the nearly limitless possibilities and combinations that are available to the mixed media artist. Ink, pencil, pastel, paint( acrylic, watercolor or encaustic), paper of all kinds, cardboard, prints, photos and different found objects are just some of the materials that can be incorporated into a unique mixed media work. No experience necessary- just a willingness to experiment with a variety of materials. Painting a Portrait & Drawing from a Live Model with Professional Artist Scott Nickerson Wednesdays 10am -12 pm April 8 – June 10 Professional Artist Scott Nickerson dismantles the complexity behind painting a great portrait. This class has been re-structured, and will now have the student begin the portrait process by painting a tonal start using just one brown color. In the weeks following, the student will continue painting in grisaille and finally add colors carefully premixed to a value scale. This method should simplify the process of color matching. (plus model fees due on first day of class) Comic Book Techniques with Professional Artist Sean Pryor Wednesday 4pm-6pm April 8 – June 10 Ever wonder how your favorite comics are made? Cartoonist Sean Pryor teaches you how to make your own comics from start to finish. Students begin with character designs and background settings, and then create rough sketches of comic pages. After these rough layouts have been created, students then will copy them onto actual comic art board with pencil, followed by going over them with inks. Once the inking is complete, students will then color the pages, thus making their own comics in a fun and relaxed environment. 10 week 2 hour course $270.00 plus materials. Think again. Starting in the 1960's with the Underground 'Comix' movement, comics have gradually become a medium respected not only for its art, but its growing literary credibility. This 10 week course will take a look at how to design and create comics made for a more mature audience. Students will start with their own ideas, develop them from character designs and rough layouts, and eventually create personal works of comic art of their own design. Andrew “Toast” Herzer will instruct students in learning the different skills and techniques involved in Urban Art. In this class students will create their own designs and drawings in a ‘Black Book’. In subsequent classes, students will have the choice to transfer their designs from the ‘Black Book’ to a piece of foam core and use spray paint outside or continue on their ‘Black Book’ designs. Students will also have the opportunity to explore transferring works onto canvas.
