Using mathematics to find innovative solutions in business is nothing new to Adrian Morun (BBA/BMath, 2011), winner of Waterloo’s prestigious Co-op Student of the Year Award for the Faculty of Mathematics. While on a co-op work term at Microsoft, Adrian applied his mathematical knowledge to building a financial forecasting model that dramatically increased the precision and reliability of estimating investment returns. For his efforts, Adrian not only garnered multiple awards, but also was one of only 5 student employees across Canada to be offered fulltime employment at Microsoft through its accelerated leadership development program, MACH (Microsoft Academy for College Hires). Selecting the right university program to suit his interests and abilities was a relatively easy one for Adrian. “I chose the BBA/BMath program at Waterloo because I heard it was one of the best programs in the country when it comes to combining math with business” says Adrian, who has always had a love of mathematics. Adrian also credits the BBA/BMath program with helping him synthesize his analyses and effectively communicate the relevant results to a non-math oriented audience – an important skill that did not go unnoticed by his co-op supervisors. Looking ahead, Adrian sees himself in a management position in sales and marketing at Microsoft that best complements his analytical and business management skills. Based on his performance to date, there is every reason to believe Adrian will achieve any goals he chooses to set for himself! At the end of the day, it was my math training and analytical skills that earned me recognition and success in the business workplace. – adrian Morun, BBA/BMath request a brochure The Mathematics Business and Accounting – Admissions 2014 brochure is one in a series of 3 Faculty of Mathematics brochures.
