Department of Animal Biotechnology
Introduction:
Department of Animal Biotechnology is rencently establishment in the college
under Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojna.
Objective:
The objective of the department is to impart best quality education to under
graduate and post graduate students, to undertake research projects in the fields of
Reproductive biotechnology like Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer technique;
vaccine development, recombinant hormone like insulin, rbST, identification of genetic
disorder, cytogenetic disorder and genetic information of production trait, Biochemical
genetics and Animal Breeding for the benefit of the region specific community and
extension of the same to the grass root level.
Major activities:



Teaching of post graduate and Ph.D. students
1. Three courses of Animal Genetics & Breeding
are taught to
undergraduate students as per VCI guidelines. Lecture notes and practical
manuals for under graduate studies have been prepared.
2. Sixteen courses are offered at Post Graduate and Ph.D. level as per ICAR
norms for Animal Biotechnology.
Research
Laboratory aid is provided for selection of animal, Disease diagnosis and
identification of genetic disorder.
Extension
Extension for application of Advanced Molecular Techniques used for
veterinary field and industry.

Facilities:
Laboratory facilities were established for UG and PG practical demonstrations in
the department of Animal Biotechnology.
Research activities
Presently, purchasing of various instruments / equipments for establishment of a
well functional research lab is going on. But as the space available is limited, the lab in
not in the functional state even though research in ABT is taking place in various
departments like Veterinary Microbiology (detection/identification of micro organism),
Gynaecology (AI) of this college.


Future Plans

Delivering lectures in training programmes to farmers organized at
university centers and at village level during Krishi Mahotsav.
Department is planning to establish highly advanced molecular laboratory
for the research, training as well as diagnosis of animal disease using
animal biotechnology tools.
