Men’s Provision 1- Saturday 15
Melville v Reds
What did you do at 8:30pm on Saturday night? Sure
was cold wasn’t it? I always think its colder at
hockey turfs than anywhere else and sadly I was
proven correct as we ran onto the pitch at Melville
to play our Prov 1 Mens game at 8:30pm. That’s
8:30pm start time, not finish time. We started really
strong but let them back in the game later, probably
because it was past half the teams bedtime.
Given the time it was a great surprise that we not
only had a team but 2 subs, with some much
appreciated thanks to our late ring-ins (cheers Tom,
Jack and Lachlan). We pulled a massive team
selection surprise that left everyone guessing,
especially our own team, with Gav starting at Left
Half.
He did a great job, but even at LH still
Vets.
managed to get a shot, with no less than his
compulsory tomahawk.
Goal of the Day? With 4 to choose from, this was a
hard choice between Blake’s flick going in/off a
defender and Dirtys baseline magic, but there was
one goal that truly stood out. The others were good,
but don’t deserve a full paragraph. Though my goal
was good, really good. See what happened was I got
the ball from the left and quickly swung around to
hit it off my back foot towards the goal. It was such
a quickly-taken shot that the goalie over-reacted and
my snail pace shot managed to trickle over the line,
and touch the side board with a very small boom.
Right, where was I? Oh yeah, that was (really,
really) good but the best goal was our fwd pressure
on their fullback. He had no options, so tried to take
on Prindi (bad idea), tried to offlay to his other
fullback (worse idea) when Noel swooped in,
intercepted and slotted it into the net …..If we had
any spectators braving the cold they sure would
have applauded the team pressure & effort.
Cont
So in the end we managed a 4-2 win and are
happily sitting on top of the ladder, maybe. Not
sure, as I still haven’t checked the new website.
Probably should have checked it before posting
this. Too busy. In fact on Sunday, I took my 3 year
old son, Tim, to Kings Park on the weekend and he
loved that dinosaur playground so much that when
we had to go he carried on like a pork chop. Lucky
for me, by playing Melville the night before I was
hardened to incessant moaning, whinging and petty
complaining. I will be playing in ear plugs next
round.

Playing Uniform
Your club goes to a lot of effort to have the correct
playing uniform for club members to wear – both
seniors and juniors
It has been brought to the management attention
that many members are wearing incorrect shirts,
shorts and socks, together with training singlets.
Please make it a priority to obtain the correct
playing attire. ALL players (Goalkeeper exempt)
must wear the proper club playing shirt under the
rules from HWA.
8.7 No player shall take part in any match except
in the registered and approved by
Hockey WA, uniform of their Club
13.3.2 Failure to be in registered uniform. $25.00
2013 WA Diamonds Coach
Congratulations to our women’s coach Jason
Butcher on being appointed coach of the
Diamonds team to participate in the Australian
Hockey League to be held in Hobart from 27th
September to 5th October
Aquinas College Hockey 1st XI
After the first five games the team has started in a
very promising manner with the following result.
v Scotch 3 – 0
v Trinity 9 – 2
v Wesley 5 – 2
v Guildford 2 – 1
v Christchurch 2 – 1
The team is again being coached by Ian Smyth and
this year captain is Simon Benetti. Their next two
games, agaist Hale and Scotch are at home
commencing at 10.30 on Saturday mornings. It
would be beneficial for club members to make an
effort and come down and give them your support.
P.S. The morning teas are worth it.
A vote of thanks
Did you ever wonder who does the flyers and
logos for the club? A lot of this has been done of
late by Gav Feilding. Gav has provided his time,
effort and creativity free of charge to support the
club.
Are you looking for someone to do something
creative? You might like to look at contacting
Gav to get a quote and support him as a sponsor. His email is gav@mixingcultures.com Thanks Gav for all your help.

Interest free loans!!!
Who in today’s world would say no to that? Well
unfortunately there are too many club members
taking advantage of this. Old Aquinians and
Willetton Reds hockey Clubs have had to pay their
Moieties to HockeyWA $26,5000 and further moiety
early July of another $26,5000. To those that have
paid or made an arrangement to pay their fees, thank
you. To those of you who have not done so, please
stop bludging on your club members and avoid the
club having to take out its own loan – not interest
free!!
Senior $420, Ladies $415 and Students $320

Family Day Sunday 26th May
Under 18 teams
A very friendly and successful day was had by all
those who made the effort to show their support.
Some interesting hockey was displayed when the
life members XI took on a gentlemen’s XI. The
following life members lined up: Peter Galbraith,
Peter Willett, Peter Cook, Peter Crowe, Richard
Aggiss, David Bell, John Davidson, Ivan Wilson,
Brad Ward and Mark Pitts representing Ted. Our
thanks to members from other clubs who joined in
and to Vern Gooch and Lionel David for umpiring.
Also satisfying to see so many kids, parents and
club members join in the activities. A Big Thank
You for all those who provided the array of food
and to all who helped on the day in the kitchen,
coaching the kids and selling the raffle tickets
The under 18 women’s and men’s state teams were
both announced recently. Both Tori Johnson and
Emily Burton members of the premier league team
made the women’s team and Aquinas College 1st
XI and premier league team member Riley Lloyd
made the men’s team
HBF Run for a Reason
Sunday May 26th 2013 whilst a number of club
members and families competed in the run, guess
who was the oldest competitor, none other than
#23114 Peter Kennedy at age 93, joking that run
for a reason kept him out of Karrakatta, and he
intended to keep entering for as long as he is able.
Congratulations to all those who entered and
raised $1.2m for charities
