Hannibal-LaGrange University Head Wrestling
Coach Scott Hawes has 13 years of coaching experience at all levels of competitive
wrestling from middle school to the NCAA/
NAIA collegiate level. As a collegiate wrestler
at Maranatha Baptist Bible College (MBBC),
Hawes was coached by USA Olympic Gold
Medalist, Ben Peterson. In the fall of 2004,
Coach Hawes was asked to return to MBBC
and become the head wrestling coach. In his four years of
coaching at MBBC, Hawes experienced success coaching Maranatha’s first-ever 2nd place finisher and NCAA All-American in
the 2007-08 season. In the spring of 2008, Hannibal-LaGrange
College extended an invitation to Coach Hawes to become the
head coach for HLG’s wrestling team. In August of 2009, Coach
Hawes was one of 30 college coaches in the nation to be invited
to participate in the prestigious National Wrestling Coaches
Association’s Coach’s Leadership Academy. In August of
2010, Coach Hawes was part of the first class to complete this
training which is vital for the preservation of college wrestling in
America. Coach Hawes says, “TWC will be a great opportunity
for developing wrestlers to be influenced in wrestling and in
developing character from the clinicians, coaches and the college wrestlers who all will be working closely with the wrestlers.
While wrestlers are at TWC, they will be pushed towards excellence in a God-honoring family environment!”
Coach Matt Dunbar joined the HLG coaching
staff in the 2010-11 season. Coach Dunbar
is a 2006 Hannibal High School graduate.
While wrestling for the Hannibal High School
Pirates, Coach Dunbar compiled an impressive 159-29 career record and was also a
four time state place winner with two Missouri
State Tournament finals appearances. Coach
Dunbar set an all time Hannibal High School record of earning the most team points (786) and most three point near falls
(141). Dunbar also ranks in the top five most career wins for
Hannibal High School. Dunbar started his college wrestling career at Lindenwood University before transferring to HLG. During
his time here, Dunbar married his wife Brittney and has made
the transition from wrestler to coach.

I and not the TWC shall be financially responsible for any and
all medical bills or costs incurred as a result of injury, illness or
