OES Capital Project Technologist – Town Facilities The Town of Ajax Operations & Environmental Services department is comprised of four (4) sections: Operations and Fleet Services, Environmental Services, Infrastructure and Asset Management and Building Maintenance. The Town of Ajax is currently searching for a Capital Project Technologist who will report to the Manager of Infrastructure and Asset Management and will be responsible to deliver a wide range of capital projects relating to Town Facilities. In addition to relevant project management experience, the successful candidate will be required to inspect municipal facilities, maintain the Town’s Facility Conditions Assessment report and to inspect multi-year capital plans. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure and Asset Management, key activities include: Assist in the delivery of capital projects relating to Town facilities (arenas, swimming pools, libraries, fire stations, community pavilions, Town Hall etc.). Provide direction to consultants, review and develop contract documents and specifications (utilizing AutoCAD when applicable), assume the responsibility for contract administration until project close-out Develop design concepts and detailed design drawings and specifications which meet client department requirements Deliver exceptional customer service to a broad range of stakeholders (department staff, user groups, general public), developing detailed project schedules and deliverables, recognizing the day-to-day operations and seasonal demands of each facility Assist in the development and implementation of annual and multi-year capital plans, in consultation with user departments, establishing priorities based on inspection reports, user requirements, established energy performance targets, greenhouse gas reduction strategies etc. Coordinate the routine inspections of Town facilities and related equipment, in order to maintain the Town’s Facility Condition Assessment, while at the same time utilizing your knowledge of sustainable building principles to identify opportunities to enhance overall building performance Understand emerging technology, conduct research and develop green building policy(ies) for new and existing Town facilities Prepare reports and make presentations to Senior Management and Town Council Qualifications: Post secondary degree or diploma in construction, architectural technology or a related field. Member of AATO is considered an asset Strong working knowledge of building science, building envelope construction, electrical and mechanical systems Five (5) years of relevant, progressive experience in building/facility development and capital project management, including contract administration Knowledge of Ontario Building Code Strong computer skills relating to AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as an understanding regarding the application and implementation of Capital Budgeting software Demonstrated ability to manage the performance of consultants and contractors Understanding of procurement practices in a municipal government environment Superior customer service and organization skills are essential Motivated leader with strong decision making skills who has the ability to function at a high level with minimum supervision Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills Strong communication skills with the ability to work with user departments and convey relevant information in a timely manner Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract Valid Standard First Aid & CPR C, Standard First Aid & CPR C Instructor (preferred) Working Conditions: Hours of work extend from 8:00 a.m. = 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (35 hours/week) This position may be scheduled to work up to six (6) Saturdays each year in accordance with the collective agreement Must have the ability to flex hours to accommodate project requirements and attend evening meetings, if needed Salary Range: $33.12 - $35.30 per hour (under review) To explore this exciting opportunity further, please forward your resume and covering letter by October 30, 2014 to: HR Services Town of Ajax 65 Harwood Avenue South Ajax ON L1S 2H9 Fax: (905) 686-8352 E-mail: resumes@ajax.ca We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
