Commanders Information Sheet
•
At Cedar Springs Hospital we are committed to ensuring your Service Member receives
the best possible care. To facilitate this, it is important you are involved and understand
the administrative process.
•
Safety is our first priority. We will ensure your service member is in a safe, comfortable
environment as we begin to help them deal with their issues.
•
Upon arrival, your Service Member will be assessed by one of our licensed behavioral
health providers and then escorted to the adult acute unit where a psychiatrist will
evaluate them for appropriateness for our military specific Recovery Zone program.
The Recovery Zone is for those Service Members with a desire to get better and return
to duty. It is managed by a retired military member who understands the mission and
nuances facing Service Members today. It has specific programing for those suffering
with PTSD and closely follows the DoD formulary so as not to give any medications
which could affect the Service Member’s deployability. Those Service Members who do
not demonstrate motivation for the mission will receive care on our adult acute unit
located on Hickory Hall.
•
Within 24 hours your Service Member will see a psychiatrist and a medical doctor who
will address any medical issues and start them on medications as necessary.
•
Within 72 hours your Service Member is assessed by a therapist who will complete a
comprehensive psychosocial assessment and create an individualized treatment plan.
•
During your Service Member’s stay, they will participate in a structured 7 day a week
schedule which includes physical training, group therapy, individual therapy, AA (if
needed) and psycho-education groups.
•
We believe family is important to recovery, so we will make every effort to schedule a
family session prior to discharge. This can be in person or via telephone. It may be
with a spouse, family or even the Chain of Command.

•
It is highly encouraged that those in the Chain of Command or NCO Support Channel
visit with their Service Member. Visitation for those two groups is allowed at any time of
the day as long as the Service Member is not in therapy. All others must visit during the
evening visitation hours. You may also bring any personal belongings to your Service
Member during the day.
•
Open communication is important to us which is why we have a dedicated Director of
Military Programs and a Case Manager whose primary function is to communicate with
you and your behavioral health team. They will also speak with someone in the Chain
of Command to gather collateral information. You may contact them at any time,
Director, 719-310-4402 or Case manager, 719-210-0534.
•
Discharge planning begins at admission. We coordinate follow-up appointments with
your behavioral health team and ASAP as needed. You will receive a phone call from
us when it is time to pick up your Service Member. Patients are not allowed to
coordinate their own pick-up or transportation. Our procedure is to discharge Service
Members to someone of greater rank and during the morning hours even if their hold
expires in the evening. This is so that your behavioral health team has an opportunity to
see them upon discharge and clear them for placement back into your unit.
