Our Mission: Safe Harbor empowers survivors of sexual and domestic violence to transform
their lives, and promotes healthy relationships for all.

2011-2012 was a busy year. We served over 1,000 survivors of sexual and domestic violence
and educated over 6,000 community members. These numbers do not include those supported
by our hotline program (nearly 3,800) or those reached via our website, social media or traditional media outreach. Our website was redesigned in November 2011 and we became fully
engaged in social media including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
“Harbor House,” our first transitional home, opened in January 2012. “Hope House,” our
second transitional home, will open in in 2012-2013. These spaces create a safety net for
survivors as they continue to transform their lives.
Work within our community continues in order to better serve those impacted by sexual and
domestic violence, and to create a community where healthy relationships are supported.

How We Help
Safe Harbor is a resource center for those
impacted by sexual and domestic violence.
We collaborate with survivors to
provide support, education and referral
information to help survivors meet their
goals. A variety of supportive services are
available, including:
Safe Harbor Staff
•Emergency Shelter: Emergency housing for adults and
children experiencing sexual and domestic violence. At
the house, survivors can access counseling, referral
information and community resources.
•24-hour helpline: Support and resource information
for those impacted by sexual and domestic violence.

•Hospital Accompaniment (RHART – Regional
Hospital Accompaniment Team): Trained volunteers
respond to area hospitals to provide accompaniment
services to persons who have experienced sexual and
domestic violence.
Each year Safe Harbor honors an individual or
organization in the Henrico community that
has been instrumental in empowering survivors of sexual and domestic violence and/or
promoting healthy relationships for all.
•Counseling: Supportive counseling available to
persons who have experienced sexual and domestic
violence. Services are provided both in individual and
group settings.
•Children/Youth Services: Supportive, age-appropriate
services for children/youth who have been impacted
by sexual and domestic violence. Supportive counseling
available for youth who experience dating violence.
