Real Life, Real Learning
Kent Career Tech Center (KCTC) has been an
important educational service of Kent ISD
for the past 40 years. Classes are designed
around work environments and emulate
real-world applications. Lab instruction
emphasizes computers and technology.
KCTC enrolls more than 2,500 students from
nearly 60 public and private high schools
each year. The Center provides students
with quality training in over 20 career
and technical programs including core
technical training, academic integration and
alignment with post-secondary education.

Attending Kent Career Tech Center
• Attendance is free to all high school students and
non grad students under the age of 20.
• Credit for Kent Career Tech Center programs is
granted by the home school.
• Students who attend must be at least
sixteen years old by December 1 of
the school year in which they enroll. Please note: some programs have specific age
requirements
• Transportation is arranged by the home school.
• One session at KCTC equals three one-hour classes
at the sending school. Three sessions of 2 hours and
15 minutes are offered Monday through Friday.
• Seniors completing the first year of a two-year
program may return for a second school year
if openings are available in that same program.
However, high school students get priority
placement. Changing programs is not possible for
high school graduates. A $200 tuition fee may apply
as confirmation of intent to return.

exteriors of damaged vehicles may be the perfect fit for this
program. This program maintains a high industry standard
through the ASE NATEF certification process. Students in this
program learn entry-level skills that prepare them for state
and national certification.

The Avionics-Aircraft Electronics program may be a
perfect fit for students who are interested in electricity,
electronics, avionics, aircraft maintenance, air traffic
control, engineering and flight sciences. This course is
offered at our hangar at the Gerald R. Ford International
Airport and offers the opportunity to earn national
certification usually earned at the college level.

Technology
Course may be taken for 1 year
Mechatronics combines the fields of mechanical and
electrical engineering, IT and control systems. Students
excited by high-tech robotics, advanced electronics
and clean manufacturing may be the perfect fit for this
program.
This program offers two learning options. Exploration of
Mechatronics, open to 10th-12th graders, features a blended
approach – partially online and partially face-to-face.
This is the only program open to 10th graders. In Full
Mechatronics, open to 11th and 12th graders, students spend
the traditional 5 half days each week at the Tech Center for
an in-depth experience.

Academy (HSECA)
Course may be taken for either 1 or 2 full years
Students in HSECA can earn up to 14 free direct college
credits, 7 per year. HSECA offers three exciting courses –
Biomedical Technology, Diagnostic Healthcare Professions
and Therapeutic Healthcare Professions – in actual
healthcare settings. Students excited about biotechnology,
genetics, cell structure, anatomy, diagnostic tests, and direct
patient care may be a perfect match for these courses.
Diagnostic Healthcare Professions

• Perform diagnostic testing using equipment including
glucose meters, hemoglobinometers, spectrophometers
and electrocardiographs
• Practice medical lab simulations using actual
sonography, electrocardiograph, live blood draws, plus
respiratory lung treatment and testing
• Earn a phlebotomy internship and certification
Therapeutic Healthcare Professions

for the second year. An additional fellowship year (following
graduation from the local district) allows students to earn up
to 18 free credits from Ferris State University.

about every student. In fact, we have so
many options that determining the right
pathway and program can be the hardest
part. That’s why we’ve created the guiding
questions below. Use the questions on the
front and back of this card to help determine
which pathway is best for each student.
Then, use the cards throughout this guide to
choose the program that’s the right fit.
Arts & Communications
• Are you a creative thinker?
