KNOW WHAT YOU WANT
What are your career and life goals?
A degree or certificate from City Colleges of Chicago is your ticket to a rewarding career, either right after graduation, or after a successful transfer
to a four-year university. We have the resources to get you there, but you have to make some choices about your path.
MAKE AN INFORMED CHOICE
What do you want to study? Choose one of our ten College to Careers focus areas to help you narrow down from the 100+ degree and certificate
programs we offer. If you’re having trouble making a decision, your college advisor can help talk it through with you, and provide you access to software
and other tools for career and education exploration.
Choose a Focus Area: Choose from ten broad categories of CCC offerings (e.g., Healthcare, Education) – consult with an advisor
Get on a Pathway: Learn about common first-year courses in a focus area, career options, and degree and certificate plans available
COMMIT TO COMPLETE
Once you know what focus area interests you, figure out what you want to study in particular. For example, if you like information technology, do you if
you want to go into Web Development or into Networking? Different courses are required depending on which pathway you choose, so if you haven’t
already, meet with your college advisor to come up with an education plan that lists the exact courses you need in order to follow your own personal
path to graduation, a bachelor’s degree and a career.
Complete an Education Plan: Work with your advisor to create your personalized plan to reach your goal

HEALTHCARE
COLLEGE TO CAREERS LOCATION: MALCOLM X COLLEGE
When illness threatens the well-being of yourself or a loved one, nothing can be more
comforting than the knowledge and expertise of a qualified healthcare professional. People
in the health sciences work to prevent, diagnose, and treat illnesses and injuries. Some work
with specific tissues or fluids, like phlebotomists, while others, like morticians, work with
human remains. If you value helping others, and you enjoy science classes, consider a career
in Healthcare.
Check www.ccc.edu/programs for program location.

BLOCK SCHEDULES
Are you looking for the best schedule of courses that meets your needs and
goals? If the answer to this question is “yes”, then a Block Schedule is for
you! Block schedules create sequential links to courses that are strategically
grouped to meet student needs or that are common prerequisites for degree
and certificate programs. As such, students will benefit from being grouped in a
cohort of students with similar academic and career aspirations. Ask a College
Advisor about a Block Schedule designed with your future in mind!
NEW STUDENTS
Welcome to MXC! After you take your COMPASS placement exam, ask a Testing
Coordinator if you are eligible for a block schedule. If so, skip all of the lines
and enjoy priority registration when you enroll in any block schedule. Visit the
Advising Center and let an Advisor know you want to enroll today!
DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION BLOCK SCHEDULE
Block schedules allow for easy registration in all of the courses that keep you
on track to completion. Please review your COMPASS scores and enroll in the
blocks that match your placement courses. NOTE: You must enroll in all courses
of a block. If any student is partially enrolled or drops an individual course prior
to the first week of classes, then the student will be automatically dropped from
all courses.
