Enrolls at the Ecole Municipale des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre
Serves in French Army
Granted Annual Scholarship of 1,200 francs by municipality of Le Havre. Goes
to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and in the atelier of Léon Bonnat.
First exhibition at the Salon des Indépendants.
First solo exhibition at Berthe Weill’s Gallery.
Travels to Munich and to the south of France.
Couturier Paul Poiret suggests that he create woodcuts for textile printing. Dufy
executes designs for new printing shop in Montmartre.

Commissioned to paint large mural at the Palais d’Electricité for the Paris
World’s Fair.
Second visit to England. Exhibits at the Petit Palais, Paris. Travels to Pittsburgh
to jury for the Carnegie Prize
Travels to Venice. Begins to suffer from arthritis.
Travels to Nice, then to the Pyrenees to escape German invaders.
Exhibits at the Galerie Louis Carré, Paris. Large exhibition at Palais des BeauxArts, Brussels.
Executes cartoons for tapestries, to be exhibited in 1948 at the Galerie Louis
Carré, Paris.
Travels to Spain. Exhibits at the Louis Carré galleries, New York.
Part of group exhibition, “The Fauves,” at the 25th Biennale in Venice. Travels to
Boston, where his arthritis is treated at the Jewish Memorial Hospital. Exhibits at
Reid and Lefebvre Gallery, London, and Perls Gallery, New York. Illustrates

Travels to Tuscon, AZ. Pierre Courthion publishes monograph on Dufy.
Wins first prize for painting at the 26th Biennale in Venice. Exhibits at Musée
d’Art et d’Histoire, Geneva.
Exhibits at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen. Dies 23 March. Buried in Nice.
