Fee is waived until March 31, 2014. • You may pick up a parent/medical pack at the Welcome Center or online: www.ymcachesapeake.org. • Complete parent packet/medical forms and present them at the Welcome Center at the time of registration. We must have immunization and tetanus shot information. • Full payment is due at time of registration. Register no later than the Thursday of the week prior to the start of the specific camp. Limited space is available. Refunds If the YMCA of the Chesapeake cancels camp, we will give you a full refund or credit towards another camp. If you request to cancel your child’s enrollment in camp, you must do so in writing no less than 14 days prior to the first day of camp to receive a credit less $10 processing fee. Camp Cancellations The YMCA of the Chesapeake may cancel any camp due to insufficient participation. Transfers Requests to transfer to a different camp will be considered but must be made in writing at least 14 days prior to the beginning of each camp. Financial Assistance Financial assistance is available to those families unable to afford the full camp fee. These benefits are dependent upon the resources of the YMCA and are based upon each applicant’s demonstrated need; applications are available at the Welcome Center. To process a financial assistance request in time for the summer, please have forms completed and returned to the YMCA of the Chesapeake at least two weeks prior to registering for camp. Schedules Looking to see what campers will be doing from day to day? Your daily camp schedule will be available June 1. Schedules may vary or change based on inclement weather or field trips. Camp Goals Our goal is to provide a safe, wholesome, Christian environment for campers to gain experiences that help them learn, grow, and thrive. We strive to help each camper develop core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith. Our Staff The YMCA of the Chesapeake interviews and selects the most qualified, experienced men and women in the community. Our staff members are selected based on their maturity, skills, patience, enthusiasm, and desire to be good role models for children. Each staff attends training that concentrates on safety, group dynamics, and character development. Safety In all activities, safety and approved instructional methods are paramount. Activities are closely supervised and adhere to program standards from the YMCA of the USA and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Camper safety continues to be our number one priority. All staff are CPR and first aid certified. 3 Camps with Character! From swimming and crafts to games and stories, these camps offer a variety of engaging activities designed just for preschoolers. Week 5 7/14-7/18 Space Odyssey It’s one step for camp; one giant leap for campers! From moon dust, alien invasions and high-flying gravity-defying rockets, this week will be out of this world. $105 member/$140 program participant 9am-4pm Week 7 7/28-8/1 Spirit Week We’ve got spirit, yes we do. We’ve got spirit, how about you? Get ready for an explosion of camp spirit! Camp activities will be based on a new theme each day, such as backwards day, crazy hair day, and totally tie-dye day. Before–care is available beginning at 7am. After–care is available until 6pm. There is no additional cost for before or after–care for Traditional Camp. Week 1 6/16-6/20 Passport to Adventure: Bon Voyage and step aboard for a summer full of adventure! Campers will receive a Camp Passport that we will stamp throughout the entire summer as we reach new heights, reach new goals and make new friends. Campers will explore Asian, African, South American, Hawaiian and more as we explore other cultures around the world including their cuisine, languages and arts. Week 2 6/23-6/27 Lights, Camera, ACTION!: Here’s your chance to be a writer, director, a star! Campers get behind and in front of the camera creating the next must-see camp videos. With action, adventure, mystery, and guaranteed comedy, we will develop confidence and cooperation in this fun-filled week. Come see how God has gifted you! Week 3 6/30-7/3 Race to the White House Based on Kid President and his challenge to make the world AWESOME! This week will provide a proactive way for young people to change their mindset and their community, by understanding that 6 Week 6 7/21-7/25 Holidaze This week every day is a holiday! We will take the most fun and festive of holidays and put them all in a single week. Monday is St Patrick’s Day, Tuesday is Easter, Wednesday is Fourth of July, Thursday is Thanksgiving, and Friday is Christmas. Week 8 8/4-8/8 Super Heroes Super Heroes Assemble! It’s a bird; it’s a plane, it’s…Campers will discover that there are real life heroes all around us every day, and that perhaps they have some super powers too! Week 9 8/11-8/15 War on The Shore It’s on like Donkey Kong! This week campers will battle it out in these summertime classics including capture the flag, canoe jousting, jump the river, dance battles, water balloon fights, foursquare, kickball, and more! Week 10 8/18-8/22 One Last Adventure Oh no…camp is almost over…NOOO! This week is all about the best of summer camp. Counselors will plan activities surrounding your camper’s favorites. Does your camper want to climb the Alpine Tower one last time, zip line one last time or pie their Counselor in the face ONE LAST TIME? This week is all about celebrating the experiences had and memories made this summer! *Camps held during Week 4 (6/30-7/3) will be prorated. AGES 5-15 TRADITIONAL CAMP Richard A. Henson Family YMCA CIT–Counselor in Training (ages 14-15) We are looking for energetic and motivated students with the patience and maturity to work with kids! CIT’s will spend four weeks participating in the Henson Family Y’s camp experience with the firsthand responsibilities of a summer camp counselor while under the supervision of senior counselors. This program gives participants the opportunity to place the needs of others ahead of their own, share what they have learned and be a role model for younger campers. CIT’s will receive weekly evaluations based on performance, mentoring from senior counselors, and their interactions with campers and parents. CIT’s are selected through an application process complete with an interview and training. Session 1: Session 2: 6/23-7/18 7/28-8/22 9am-4pm Outposting (ages 8-15) The outposting program is an opportunity for your camper to participate in an overnight camping experience at our family camp, located in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Campers will leave Salisbury YMCA at 11am on Thursday and will be bused to our family camp where they will participate in canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, and swimming. Our family camping facility also has multiple water activities. Campers will enjoy a wet willie-water slide, a blob, and zip line. Campers will camp outdoors unless weather prohibits, in which case they will camp inside the Lower Shore Family YMCA. Outposting includes dinner on Thursday as well as breakfast and lunch on Friday. Campers return to Salisbury by 4pm on Friday. Ask for more information on this program at the Welcome Center. Adventure Camp (ages 8-14) Adventure camp is new for 2014. Your children will be transported daily to our beautiful 100 acre wooded campus at the Lower Shore Family YMCA where their summer days will be filled with fun and adventure. They will exercise their bodies and their minds. Your children will choose from many enriching and fun activities from archery to fishing to climbing, stretching their imaginations and making new friends in our safe, caring environment. Campers will swim, kayak, canoe, fish, and bike the trails as well as experience the 550 foot zip line, the amazing alpine tower, wet-willie water slide, water trampoline and blob. Campers will develop the Y’s essential core values in the company of exceptional leaders. Every child has swimming lessons daily. We have weekly themes and celebrate together. This unique combination fosters an appreciation for the environment, develops self-esteem, instills a spirit of adventure, and promotes teamwork, friendship, and a sense of community through memorable camp experiences. Camp runs for 10 weeks beginning June 16. Campers can come for one week, or all 10. Campers will leave the Richard A. Henson Family YMCA at 8am daily and return by 4pm. We’ve got spirit, how about you? Get ready for an explosion of camp spirit! Camp activities will be based on a new theme each day, such as backwards day, crazy hair day and totally tie-dye day. Week 8 8/4-8/8 Super Heroes Super Heroes Assemble! It’s a bird; it’s a plane, it’s...Campers will discover that there are real life heroes all around us every day and that perhaps they have some super powers too! We will take a field trip to AeroSports Trampoline Park on Thursday this week. Week 9 8/11-8/15 War on The Shore It’s on like Donkey Kong! This week campers will battle it out in these summertime classics including capture the flag, canoe jousting, jump the river, dance battles, water balloon fights, foursquare, kickball, and more! Week 10 8/18-8/22 One Last Adventure Oh no…camp is almost over…NOOO! This week is all about the best of summer camp. Counselors will plan activities surrounding your camper’s favorites. Does your camper want to climb the Alpine Tower one last time, zip line one last time or pie their Counselor in the face ONE LAST TIME? This week is all about celebrating the experiences had and memories made this summer! $105 member/$140 program participant 11 AGES 5-15 TRADITIONAL CAMP Lower Shore Family YMCA Counselor in Training (CIT) Program (ages 14-17) The YMCA of the Chesapeake CIT program is for students ages 14-17 interested in pursuing a career working with campers in grades K-8th. CIT’s will participate in the Lower Shore Family Ys camp experience with the firsthand responsibilities of a summer camp counselor while under the supervision of senior counselors. This program gives participants the opportunity to place the needs of others ahead of their own, share what they have learned and be a role model for younger campers. CIT’s will receive weekly evaluations from the Camp Director based on performance, mentoring from senior counselors, and their interaction with campers and adults. CIT applicants prepare and application with references and are interviewed before being accepted into the program. In order to be considered as a CIT, applicants must have completed 9th grade. We strongly suggest that applicants have previous experience working with kids. Please see the Welcome Center for an application. Outposting (ages 8-15) The outposting program is an opportunity for your camper to participate in an overnight camping experience at our family camp, located right here at the Lower Shore Family YMCA. Campers will transition to Outposting on Thursday afternoon and will participate in climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, and swimming. Campers will enjoy the wet willie-water slide, a blob, and zip line. Campers will camp outdoors unless weather prohibits, in which case they will camp inside the Lower Shore Family YMCA. Outposting includes dinner on Thursday as well as breakfast and lunch on Friday. Ask for more information on this program at the Welcome Center. Outposting is offered the following session: Session 2: 6/26–6/27 Session 4: 7/10–7/11 Session 6: 7/24–7/25 Session 8: 8/7–8/8 Outposting Fee: Campers already enrolled $25/Campers attending Outposting only $50 Campers enrolled in traditional camp for the week will not pay the full fee. AGES 5-13 SPECIALTY CAMPS Lower Shore Family YMCA Our YMCA specialty camps are designed to give your children a specific themed experience within their camp experience. All children will swim daily so don’t forget those swimming necessities. So pack your lunch, bring some extra drinks and have loads of specialized fun. Parents may pick up their children after specialty camps end or join adventure camp at the end of the day and partake in the end of day activities with the rest of the campers. Each camp will differ in activities, however to keep the most positive and safe experience for your children there will be a limited amount of spaces available for each camp. Sign up early to hold your spot! Camper Limit: 15 Gymnastics Camp (ages 5-12) Tumbling, Balance Beam and Bars will all be taught to campers by former gymnast Kim Lambertson. Whether your child attends gymnastics class weekly, or has just decided to try it for the first time, our camp has a program designed for all levels. Children will be grouped by level on the first day of camp. Art Around the Globe (ages 8-13) Pack your suitcase and get your passport ready because in this camp we will be going across continents learning about arts of different cultures and complex civilizations, such as Egyptian art, African face masks, Roman architecture, Origami and more. Man vs. Wild (ages 9-13) Does your camper have what it takes to survive in the wild? This week long overnight camp experience is all about learning what it takes to fend for yourself in the wild; campers will learn the basics of orienteering, shelter building, fire making, how to gather fresh water, camp fire cooking and basic safety skills. Campers will sleep outdoors in tents and shelters. In the event of poor weather campers will “camp” inside the YMCA. $140 member/$175 program participant 6/16-6/20 $140 member/$175 program participant 6/16-6/20 12 $140 member/$175 program participant 6/16-6/20 AGES 5-13 SPECIALTY CAMPS Lower Shore Family YMCA Center Stage (ages 5-13) All the world is a stage! Under the direction of Mar-VA Theater Director, Alicia Burton, campers will work together to bring a script to life, learning the basics of acting, voice projection, blocking, set building and costuming. Actors and actresses will hone their stage skills at the Y, Monday through Thursday and spend the day Friday at the historic Mar-Va Theater preparing for a camp performance for the rest of our campers that afternoon. Final performance for parents and adoring fans will be at 6pm on Friday June 27. Aqua Camp (ages 5-13) Campers will have the opportunity to learn basic swim skills and water safety. Campers will have fun while exploring the water and working on swimming strokes, games and endurance. Aqua Camp seeks to help children feel comfortable and confident in the water in our pool and on our lake. $140 member/$175 program participant 6/30-7/3* $140 member/$175 program participant 6/23-6/27 Pirates on the Chesapeake Bay (ages 7-13) Pirates and privateers were major players in Chesapeake Bay history. For nearly 200 years, pirates roamed the Bay’s waters looking for prey and outfitting themselves to search for prizes in other parts of the world. Experience this week as a pirate would. $140 member/$175 program participant 7/7-7/11 Camp Couture-Intro to Sewing and Fashion Camp (ages 8-13) This camp focuses on the process of fashion design- from sketching to draping, designing and creating. The students will learn to hand sew, sketch designs, create accessories and participate in several design challenges, plus complete a project on the sewing machine. Projects will include- no-sew fleece blankets, placemat tote bag, create your own pillow pet, cell phone bag and reversible head band. Our camp week wraps up with our Fashion Show for parents and guests on Friday at 5pm. There is no experience necessary for this camp as we will teach the students all they need to know. $140 member/$175 program participant 6/23-6/27 Magical Music (ages 5-9) Grab a friend and come make a mix of magic and music. Campers will explore music through play and activities including: making instruments, writing songs, sing-a-longs, musical playgrounds, experiments in arrangement, and exposure to all sorts of music, rhythm play, and games. The fundamentals of music will be introduced in a playful and supportive environment. On Friday of this week all campers will attend a field trip to the Mar-VA Theater where they will show off their talents at our Camp Talent Show. A final show for parents and adoring fans will take place on Friday evening at 6pm at the Mar-VA. 140 member/$175 program participant 6/23-6/27 Karate Camp (ages 5-13) Karate Camp will offer a little something for everyone. Campers will have a chance to check out the world of martial arts, Karate basics will be taught as well as self-control, discipline and physical fitness. There will be challenging teamwork exercises, confidence building activities, and organized recreational games. Karate Camp will be led by Diana Martin, owner of Pocomoke Karate & Judo. $140 member/$175 program participant 7/7-7/11 Girl Power (ages 9 – 13) Come join us for a week of action packed activities, as we learn how to pick th perfect hair style and outfit for that special event. Who Runs The World? GIRLS do…why? Because girls are silly, sassy, smart and can be anything that they want to be! This camp is all about what makes a girl a girl, from hair and make-up, to clothes and shoes, to fashion and modeling. With a focus on bike safety and repairs your campers will learn to challenge themselves, grow, laugh and learn. Ride every day in an ideal setting; learn bicycle mechanics, practice skills, and help build trails. Golf Camp (ages 5-15) Players who are just getting started will learn the basics of grip, aiming and stance with irons and woods while players with some experience will work on improving their skills. Older players, ages 9-13, will focus on the game related techniques, skill development, mastery of core techniques, and matched play. Camp includes a YMCA soccer ball, indoor and outdoor soccer time and more! $140 member/$175 program participants 7/28-8/1 Whodunit Camp (ages 8-13) Suspects, schematics, and sleuths… oh my! Connect the dots using science and reasoning to help solve a crime in this hands-on investigation of the science of sleuthing. Children will focus on one piece of this crime puzzle each day to reconstruct the scene of a crime. This camp reinforces that a potential crime scene investigation isn’t solved quickly with snap judgments, but is more like a puzzle one must carefully put together with evidence from observation and careful thinking. $140 member/$175 program participants 7/28-8/1 If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (ages 5-12) This camp is all about making and baking. Campers will bake something new each day while focusing on manners and etiquette. They will have a tea party each day with the theme surrounding one of Laura Numeroff’s children’s books. $140 member/$175 program participants 8/4-8/8 Lacrosse (ages 8-13) Our camps provide young athletes with an opportunity to become improved lacrosse players with instruction from skilled, encouraging coaches.
