The OSC Pre IB Summer School in Boston takes place for the 20th year in 2014.
The 3 week course is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, just across the Charles River from downtown Boston, at two of the most
prestigious institutions in the world: Harvard and MIT.
Our Pre IB Summer Schools are carefully designed using the combined expertise of our Academic Team, all of whom are highly
experienced IB teachers.
What to expect from the OSC Pre IB Summer Courses:
t A 3 week course designed specifically for students who are about to start their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in the
following school term
t The course covers all aspects of the IB Diploma from content to key skills needed to be a successful IB student.
t All aspects of the course taught by highly experienced IB teachers from excellent IB schools all over the world, many of whom are
examiners
t A dedicated team of Deans to look after all your non-academic needs and provide exciting and varied activities in the afternoons
and evenings, and 24 hour pastoral care

level for their IB Diploma
t At least 50 hours of class time in addition to local excursions and IB workshops, taught by specialist IB teachers.

Group 4: Sciences
Biology, Chemistry and Physics classes focus on developing the key skills you will need to tackle your chosen Science during the
academic year with a focus on the Internal Assessment part of the course.
The classes will provide an introduction to principles and methods of scientific observation, and look at the preferred IB style of
experimental method and data presentation.
Extension Maths: Calculus
Taught by our expert Maths teachers, this course is for driven Mathematics HL and SL students who want to explore the subject in
more depth. The fast paced course focuses primarily on an introduction to Calculus although may branch further depending on the
needs of the students.
English Support for Second Language Learners
This course is for students who are not mother-tongue English speakers and want to improve their confidence with extra support in
academic writing and oral skills. Classes are tailored entirely on the students’ needs and take place in a supportive environment
designed to improve the confidence of students to communicate in English in all subjects as they embark on the IB.
Applying to US Universities
The US application process is very different from other countries and can be confusing; this course will give you all the information
that you need to prepare a successful application if you are considering study in the USA. You will find out all about:

Students already have a designated homework hour each day, but if none of the above options appeal to you, and you want more

Boston is a great city – combining the dynamism of a buzzing college town with the historic grandeur you would expect of one of
the crucibles of the American Revolution.
Walk the Freedom Trail to see the some of the most important sites of the War of Independence.
Explore the Downtown area and Cambridge to find endless shops, cafes, restaurants, museums and art galleries.
Being a coastal city, there are beautiful beaches just a short bus ride away.
And don’t forget the many world-renowned universities and colleges, including Boston College, Brandeis, Tufts, Boston University –

Harvard University
This is where OSC students live while on our Pre IB and Mid IB Boston Summer Schools.
Founded in 1636, Harvard is the oldest university in the US and one of the prestigious Ivy League institutions.
Harvard’s founder, John Harvard, was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (UK), and Harvard's atmosphere and architecture
were designed to echo the college traditions of Oxford and Cambridge.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
